Elara ------- February arrived the way it always did — grey and indifferent, the city stripped of the drama that winter had promised and delivering instead a flat persistent cold that asked nothing of anyone except endurance. She liked February. It was an honest month. She wrote every day now. Not the reactive journalism of the past six months — the counter-statements and the pre-emptive pieces and the press cycle management. The book. Real work. The kind that required you to sit with something difficult and not reach for the easier version.

November of the eleventh year was the month Don began the next argument. He had waited, as he had said he would wait, until the book was near enough to the world that the next argument could begin without the book requiring the space. The book was printed. The publication was four months away. The space was sufficient.

The Washington November morning was dark outside the window with the specific, particular darkness that arrives in November before the city has fully committed to winter but has begun the transition. The rose was on the windowsill in its winter rest. Patient. Rooted. Entirely itself. I had been writing since five. Not the frantic, deadline-driven writing of someone trying to finish. The calm, deliberate writing of someone who knew what needed to be said and was saying it correctly in the order it needed to be said in. The last chapter was about the other side.

It took me whole four months to write so accept my apologies for making you wait so long 😅 but trust me guys, I didn't want to hasten the plot and used my whole time to pour all my feelings and emotions. You will still receive the same amount of chapters you have been receiving other months. Updates are added by 5PM British Summer Time. This will obviously be a different time to wherever you are in the world if you are not in the UK. Some days, updates will be less, other days, there will be more. Once again, September is a ridiculously busy month but I am still getting chapters out when I could have easily taken more days off, so please be patient. Not many people write 400k+ words in seven months and that is just this one story. Probably 600k+ words if you include my rewrites because I didn't like what I had written.
