My purse which I am holding carelessly falls off and I don't notice or hear my phone ringing. I stagger backwards as the bike approaches me but then I realise it isn't only one but others surround me too. They all stop and I'm caught in their middle. I don't recognise any of the bikers but they really seemed creepy. They all get off their bikes and move closer to me, a smirk tugging at their lips. "Finally, we found a lone wolf to satisfy our urge tonight." The tall one says and I'm left speechless. My brows widen in fear as I inhale their scent. They're not wolves but rouges!

It caught the dim light of the evening, looking less like tech and more like a fragment of a fallen star. "This is the seed, Julian. The 'Obsidian' kernel. I want you to hide it deep within the primary architecture of the 'Certified Fresh' logistics chain. Don't tell Marcus Vanderwall. He’s a good man, but he’s a creature of the spreadsheet. And especially don't tell Elena. She’s too brilliant; she’ll see the terrifying logic in it and try to 'perfect' it. Perfection is the enemy of the 'Ghost.' I need this to be a wild variable."

The answer hovered within my reach but I couldn't grasp it. Until my attention flicked over to the open case and I saw a human head, bloodied and bruised with bloodshot eyes lying inside. A scream died in my parched throat, my vision starting to swarm with black dots. The answer finally clicked. I’ve been drugged.

“The owner… he’s not like the others.” I turned to her, raising an eyebrow. “A jerk? An egotistical narcissist?” I half-joked, trying to break the tension. But Chloe didn’t laugh. Instead, she shivered slightly, the smile fading from her face. "He's... odd. And deadly. No one really sees him during the day. He’s a nightwalker." Her voice faltered on the last word. “He’s got a scar across his face. No one knows how he got it, but people say it’s the least dangerous thing about him.”
