He stood out as he flapped his multi-colored wings around and it shone under the bright light of the sun. The god of fowls and other feathered creatures saw him and he instantly decided to name the crow as king. After hearing the decision of the god, the crow was ecstatic that he flew and flew to show everyone how beautiful he was. Little that he knew, every flapped of his wings, two or three of his unowned feathers were coming off. And he only noticed it when he was back from being black. What he read upset him, so quickly, he turned to the last page of the book. But before he could learn what happened to the crow, the door of his room flew opened. It creaked so loud that it startled him.

I got up from my crouching position, smoothed my hands across my dress, and decided to stay here for a while before going back to join them. Maybe my disappearing for a while would quieten the whispers and they could find something else to shift their focus on. In that moment, I heard a caw and the flutter of wings from above which drew my gaze and a crow came into view flying down to the ground. I watched it while taking cautious steps back but it paid no attention to me and began to hit its beak on the ground as if looking for something, it did it severally while I stared at particles of dirt fly with its digging and soon a sound like it was hitting its beak against metal began to echo.

It watched them with intelligent eyes. Faith stopped and looked at the bird. For a second, she felt a cold shiver. “Faith? What is it?” Killian asked, holding her close. “Nothing,” she said, looking away. “Let's just go home.” But as the car drove away, the crow opened its beak. It didn't caw. It spoke in a voice that sounded exactly like Father Thomas. “The first cycle is complete. The second cycle begins at the gate.” The crow took flight, heading north, toward the Academy.

It flew into her stomach just before she could reach it. The crow pecked at her stomach. No matter how hard it peck, it just goes through her. The worm cannot be reached with its short beak. The crow squawked angrily as it flies away from the soul monster. Jesse pressed the binoculars at her eyes as she saw a crow soar at the scene she was looking at. Clement placed a bunch of papers at the teacher’s desk. The sound made Jesse tremble. “What’s wrong?” He asked, taking his hand off the papers.

Looking up, the sky was not only dark because of the clouds but also the rattles and chirping of the crows was deafening… "What the hell is going on?" The crowd began screaming, especially women, when the black crows that were chirping, started falling down like rain…Creating an uncomfortable smell as they fell dead…

Years of things I never said. “Every single time you come home,” I continued, tears suddenly burning my eyes, “danger follows you.” Jayden’s expression changed slightly. Barely. But I saw it. “People die around you,” I whispered harshly. “Things happen around you. Chaos follows you like a damn shadow.” “Lex.” “No,” I snapped immediately. “You don’t get to ‘Lex’ me right now.” My chest was rising too fast now. I could feel it. But I couldn’t stop.

Eden’s POV My jaw dropped open. The crow continued to circle high above. Caw. Caw. It screeched at us in a frantic, frenzied way. “Did you just say…sister?” I whispered back to Beta Brighton. Unlike the rest of us, he was looking up at the crow with admiration. Crows have never been my favorite bird. They’re scavengers and they’re smart. A group of crows is called a ‘murder’. I always found that disturbing. But Beta Brighton gripped my arm. “Please,” he said under his breath.

Pain exploded behind my eyes. I caught myself against the wall, dizzy and half-blind. “Easy, Bianca,” Luca murmured behind me. “Look at me. Breathe.” Mother was already calling for water. Father ordered one of the guards to bring the car around. No one asked whether I was hurt. I slipped through the café’s back door before they could see me cry. By the end of my shift, a dark bruise had risen across my forehead. At least it was payday. Two more days. Then I would leave this place behind and board my flight to Boston. I just needed this paycheck to make it there.

The weight of her new reality settled heavily on her shoulders. Later that night, alone in her chambers, she removed the crown and jewels that had adorned her throughout the day. As she stared at her reflection in the mirror, she no longer recognized the woman looking back at her. She was a bride, a princess, a stranger in her own skin. …………
