My fingers twitched, wanting to reach for him, to pull him closer. “That’s what I thought.” He didn’t wait for an answer. His mouth descended, claiming mine. It wasn’t a gentle kiss. It was hungry, demanding, full of a banked fire I hadn’t known he possessed. His lips were soft, yet firm... pressing... exploring... His tongue, hot and insistent, swept into my mouth, tangling with mine, tasting the whiskey, the desperation, the unspoken longing. I moaned, a soft, involuntary sound, and leaned into him, letting the chair creak beneath me. His hand left my jaw, moving to the nape of my neck, holding me steady as he devoured my mouth. I tasted him too, and it was intoxicating.

Tears filled her eyes as she whispered against his chest, “Then burn it down. Burn the book. Please.” But when he reached for the pages, the blood hissed back like flames resisting him. The book laughed—a sharp, broken sound akin to paper tearing apart: “You can’t burn her story, fox; you can only read it…and reading means obeying.” Camela’s scream caught in her throat as she muttered, “It spoke…” Vincent bared his teeth in defiance as his fire flared even higher. “Then I’ll silence it,” he said fiercely. He slammed his hand down, his fire blazing but the pages didn’t burn. Instead, they bled harder and thicker, flooding the floor until it reached their ankles.

He set the untouched drink aside and reached for his coat. Fire had rules. Fire did not look back. Fire did not involve itself in accidents or strangers. But tonight, Fire had collided with something cold. And for reasons he couldn’t yet explain, Alexander Steele knew this was not just an incident. It was the beginning of something dangerous.

He lies, promises fake futures, and when he gets bored, he throws them away. Lisa doesn’t see it. And why would she? She looks at the world like it’s not out to get her. I had to accept that I’m meant to do great things, be the outstanding leader they all were waiting for, the bigger picture Finn was talking about that day. Suddenly there were flames dancing in front of my eyes, beautiful red, yellow and orange colors intertwining with each other. The flames grew, they got bigger, and they engulfed my entire body. I felt them caressing me, giving me their warmth without burning me, as they burned brighter and brighter until it forced me to close my eyes. There he was, majestic in all his glory, surrounded by the most gorgeous fire I have ever seen, the phoenix from the painting. He got closer. He was mere inches away from me.

He looked through me like I was a misfired weapon. “You’re not wolf,” he said. “You shouldn’t exist.” Everything in me went silent. Then — boom. Fire. My chest pulsed. Heat flooded my veins. The engine block beside me hissed loudly. Flames erupted from the hood, roaring upward. Travis screamed and lunged for the extinguisher. I stood still. Hands trembling. Eyes glowing in the reflection of the fire. Kael didn’t move. Didn’t even flinch. He just turned his head to his scout and said, “Told you. She’s unstable.”
