The light inside shifted - sapphire to violet to something darker, like the color of a dying flame.
Nythera. I didn’t say it aloud, but the name burned through my skull like a brand.
I grabbed the dagger from my belt - pure silver, the same blade that had once killed a cursebound alpha. If it could cut through darkness once, it could again.
“I don’t care what you are,” I hissed. “You don’t touch her.”
The gem flared, like it was laughing. I raised the dagger high and brought it down.
The impact rang through the room like thunder. A blinding flash erupted from the stone, knocking me backward. The dagger flew from my grip, clattering across the floor.
