Outlining A Novel Novels & Stories

He might don't want to mess with Miggy's personal life. "Aha!" He picked up his G-tech pen and write something on his notepad. The names of his characters in his novel that he's planning to write. He also wrote the description of them and how they should act according to his preferences. Then he started writing the first chapters of his story.

My thinking is that I add an authors note a the end of 'book' 1 so to speak and re-write the synopsis to advise any new readers that it will be 2 books in one. Alternatively, the other idea I had was to just have a longer book, but I don't want the length to scare off new readers. Thanks in advance! :)

For a long second—however long “second” meant here—I just floated there with the pen in my hand and the blank in front of me. Old instinct kicked in. Plot. Outline. Control. The urge to start sketching individual arcs, to decide exactly who went where and what they learned and how they cried along the way. I gripped the pen tighter until the urge passed. No. That wasn’t what this was. I wasn’t here to puppeteer every soul that would ever move through whatever came next. I wasn’t drafting a master novel where everyone hit my favorite tropes on cue.

Many times. The outline I started with isn't the story you just finished reading. Characters changed. Plot twists appeared out of nowhere. Some scenes refused to cooperate. Others surprised me so much that I had to throw away my original plans. There were days I stared at a blank page wondering if I had made a terrible mistake by trying to write my own book. But somehow... Here we are. The End. Is this a perfect novel? No. Not even close.
