the youth growled while seething with anger. Chase sprinted for miles before finally finding a secluded thicket deep within a dense forest. Surrounded by tall grass and twisted trees, he immediately concealed himself. Despite his depleted energy, Chase's unique physique allowed him to channel raw physical strength, enabling him to outrun most pursuers. I don't feel like it today” She attempted to walk away but Kol held her hand and pulled her down such that her ear and his lips were level. “Are you okay though?” Hailey nodded with a fake smile. “Yeah. I just need to sleep a bit.” Kol nodded and kissed her temple. “Goodnight. Take care.” Hailey smiled and walked up the stairs. Chase sighed as he sat on his bed with loud thump. He buried his head in his palms, a thousand and one thoughts scrambling his head.

Chase was asleep, but the jolt of magic jerked him awake, eyes wide and growling. “Calm down dude,” I said as I set off on the road again. “We just passed through security.” He relaxed a bit but still looked wide eyed. “We have about an eight-hour drive, so get some more rest,” I said. “No man, let me drive for a bit,” Chase said. I pulled over, since I was feeling tired. We swapped over and Chase set off driving following the sat nav, and it wasn’t long before I was asleep. I was woken by Chase.

I open my eyes. The ceiling is white and institutional and familiar in the way of places you have never been but which are all the same. I turn my head, which the concussion has opinions about, more slowly. The chair beside the bed is occupied. Chase is asleep in it, which is the last thing I expected and also, in some part of me that has been awake for this entire vigil without my conscious knowledge, exactly what I expected. His jacket is off and his sleeves are rolled and his head is tipped back against the wall and he is asleep in the way of someone who fought sleep for a long time and lost.

His thoughts drifted elsewhere, completely ignoring AI Doc’s lecture.
