To feel – really feel – again was a blessing, and, though I didn’t understand it, or why it had happened to me, or how long it would last for, I did know that, had it been the other way around, my envy would have been written plainly on my face for all to see. And I didn’t even want to be human so badly as Kathrena did. “I wonder why,” she murmured. Then she opened the book to the right page, sitting up straighter. “Anyway. Look at this. Hopefully this is all you’ll need to convince Aradia and the Clan that Skye isn’t a threat to us.” She pushed it towards me, and I chewed on my lip, relishing secretly at the press of my warm skin. It was the very same book that I’d seen in her bedroom, with

Chapter 29 - Pretend Penelope I felt like I was in a dream, one I never wanted to wake up from. The air in Kailani smelt so crisp and fresh that it felt like I was breathing for the first time. The flowers were so bright and full of life as they danced in the breeze, moving with such grace as the birds above us sang a beautiful melody. I felt as if I had just entered a painting.

I took the piece of paper from him and nodded, "Yes, sir." Ezekiel dismissed us, and we left his office, relieved that it was over. Later in the afternoon, Aiden, Penelope, and I sat down together at one table during lunchtime, I couldn't help but notice the excitement in Penelope's eyes as she held a worn-out book in her hands. "What's that book you've got there?" Aiden asked, looking over at her. "It's the last known book of witches," Penelope said, beaming with joy.

Timothy's POV Around nine that night, a storm rolled off the mountains, turning the sky a bruised green-gray and rattling the window frames. Penelope had been restless all day, her movements careful and constant as she tried to find a comfortable position that didn't exist. By seven, the book in her lap was just a prop; by eight, her focus had shifted entirely to the timer on her phone, tracking the rhythm of a storm of her own. "Contractions," she said, when I asked.

Every instinct screams at me to turn back to the safety of the bridge. The canopies of the remaining pods suddenly open, exposing my companions still in hibernation, utterly unaware of the impending danger. The monitors have either malfunctioned, or this is a safety device. I force myself not to panic as my breathing becomes labored from the lack of oxygen. I have almost reached Beth. She stares up at me, and I can see relief in her eyes. There is no time to consider the consequences. I rip out her tubes and remove the restraints. Globular clusters of blood and fluid float upward to the widening fracture and disappear. Beth stretches out a hand, “Skye, help me,” she whispers.

I don't have classes with anyone I'm avoiding and I'll spend lunch in the furthest corner of the massive library. Sounds like a plan, I reassure myself as I run down the hall to English. I make it to my seat with little obstacles, that goodness. I sink into my seat and wait for everyone else to enter the class so we can start this difficult day. My English desk parter, Asterin, comes bouncing in and sits next to me. She is The Pauler's gamma’s only daughter and youngest of the 5 child family. We all have bets placed that her and Ben are mates but clueless Ben is none the wiser to her. He just thinks she's cute.

It swam across the lake, saving him and his son. The new school year seemed to be so busy. Elise went into the library by herself to look for the book, which she would need in her history class. She had to be quick so she could still attend her next class even though she would be late. She had no time to go to the library later when her classes ended because of their daily rehearsals in cheerleading. She did not notice that Kent was spying on her inside the library. He just followed her but hid himself behind a bookshelf next to the one she was checking at.

Axel signaled him to come nearer and sit in front of him. “What’s your name and rank?” “I-I’m Sky... and I’m a Psi,” he meekly muttered, pushing his glasses up. Axel understandingly nodded. A Psi, just like Liam. “Good evening to you too, Sky. What do you need?” “W-Well, uh, I just finished reading a book and I-I thought I’d share it with you... Alpha.” Sky gave him the book with shaking hands. He looked down on the cover and read the title: The Anthem of Lycanthropy.
