ZEPHYRINE's POV. I stood frozen, my mind reeling in shock. "Cursed!" someone shouted, and the word was taken up by others, echoing through the clearing. "She's cursed, she's cursed, she's cursed! I felt like I'd gotten the wind sucked out of me, that he had reached in and sucked everything from my insides out. The words cut deep, and a part of me couldn't help but wonder one question: Was it me? Am I cursed to have people around me die under these circumstances that are so mysterious?

I catch her instinctively, one arm wrapping around her waist as I steady her. Static crackles between us. Goosebumps erupt across my skin. Her scent floods my lungs. Euphoria slams into me. I look down. Fiery orange curls. Pine-green eyes. Freckles scattered everywhere. Full, soft lips.

Only your death will restart the cycle.” I thought about it for a while and wondered what the chances were that killing the Goddess who created the curse would break it. I understood where Hades was coming from, but the idea of Caleb being imprisoned in Tartarus didn’t sit well with me. My eyes fell on the contract that Persephone had placed on the cushion beside her.

Charybdis is one of the ancient titans and is undefeated. Its monstrous scale is dominating and it destroys aught yond past its t'rrit'ry.

"It's not something I really want to think about." Christopher turned the box over in his hand. "Well, it's something you should," he stated. "I'm not sure how much Sawyer has told you, but as a part of the curse, it's said that if he can't find his mate and the bond fails, Sawyer and the girl who is with him on that night will burn to death under the red moon."

I assure her. “And be thankful for that,” she mutters under her breath. She resumes her reading, although I note the tension in her shoulders. She’s taking this far more seriously than I would have expected. “Why?” I ask warily. “He’s dangerous. Some sources say if he is risen, it will unleash an ancient curse.” I shudder, looking up at the sky. Midnight draws near, a thrill dancing through me. I’m anticipating the moon reaching the centre of the sky, even though I’m aware of what unleashes the curse.

Her mind wandered back to the conversation she had overheard a week ago. Diedre thought she was the key, and that was why they were constantly being attacked. Could that be true? Was the witch trying to kill her so Jackson wouldn’t have a way to break his curse?
