Three years ago, I suffered a miscarriage while helping Julian Holt, my husband, secure a crucial deal. The doctor informed me that my uterus had to be removed due to severe blood loss, and I would never be able to conceive again. Julian flew back that same night. He knelt by my hospital bed and slapped himself repeatedly. His eyes were bloodshot. “It’s all my fault! If it weren’t for me and that business deal, you wouldn’t be in this state, and we wouldn’t have lost the child… It’s all my fault!” Over the next month, he went back and forth between the company and the hospital, visibly growing thinner by the day.

I could hear his anguished cries from my end. "Nancy, I'm begging you! Please save me. For old times' sake, please just save me!" he wailed. My expression remained unchanged. "Shaun, my hand is ruined. I can no longer hold a scalpel. You're the one who left me there for an entire afternoon. Have you forgotten about that?" There was dead silence on the other end. After a long pause, he abruptly hung up. He never expected that he would ultimately reap what he sowed in the most tragic way possible. If he was lucky, he might have three months. With proper care, he could live over a year with the kind of cancer that he had.

She was prepared for everything, she would undoubtedly be a great element for the company in which she decided to be. "What are you talking about, miss?” Mr. Brown asked. What no one knew is that Crystal knew perfectly the Aguileras' situation at the same time that she knew its weakest points. "I know everything, Mr. Brown and here, Mr. Enrique can attest to the words I am about to tell you. Mr. Brown,” Crystal expressed clearly. "I know perfectly well that your company is in trouble, I know perfectly well that if the next investment is not made at the moment and the order is doubled, I know that your company may be treading the path of bankruptcy.”

That is its own kind of sentence.” Aurelian pulled him gently away from the entrance as he spoke, keeping their movement natural, two people walking together with nowhere urgent to be. “That’s an interesting thought.” Aurelian said. “It became more than a thought the moment I saw him standing in that yard.” Darius’s voice dropped slightly, the lightness leaving it. “We don’t have to kill every single one of them. Killing takes time and carries risk. But ruin?” His eyes sharpened. “Ruin can be slower. More complete. We can take everything that makes a person who they are and leave the shell standing.” He paused.

“Ruby’s gone. I heard she’s making moves to transfer schools, move to a new city, and barely answers my calls. Says she needs space from… everything.” He stared into his drink. “My business is sinking,” he continued, voice cracking for the first time. “Debts piling up. Partners pulling out. And all I’ve got left are regrets. Drinking too much. Hitting too hard when I shouldn’t. Pushing away the only person who ever looked at me like I wasn’t a monster.” Black said nothing. He squatted near me and placed his palm against mine on the glass. “Pity. You’ll never see me again. Nor will I. You’ve compensated more than enough for the harm you caused my business tonight…” I punched the glass, glaring at him. He leaned in with amusement gleaming in his eyes like the ones kids have when they visit a zoo and see animals locked in cages.
