Vincent The sight that met us as we drove into the ghostly village had us recoiling in shock. This was ground zero. Where the virus resurfaced after its recorded end in 2003. There were more dilapidated buildings, more sick and hungry people with worse symptoms, more decaying dead bodies all over the place. It was really bad.

“This is a beautiful yet deadly item. Once it’s broken and the thing inside comes in contact with skin, the infection will begin.” Rowena’s pale face looked even paler. After years of living in Stoslo, she had heard about that, but that was from over 30 years ago. She didn’t expect that the epidemic in Stoslo those years ago hadn’t been an accident but caused by people! Seeing how scared she was, Daniel smiled. “Don’t worry, this is the last of this deadly item, and there are no long antidotes for it. Once infected, the only thing to do is to wait for death to come. It won’t even be detected at the hospital.”

Dark shadows encircled her eyes. “What in the Embers’ name…” the Queen gasped, stepping back in horror. “Gods be good,” one of the guards muttered, a tremor in his voice. “She’s burning hot,” one of the servant girls whispered, her hand resting on the girl’s forehead. A chill crawled down my spine. I’d heard of this before, whispers from sailors who spoke of the deadly illness ravaging the coasts. This wasn’t an ordinary sickness. This was the Plague.

They met resistance – Diarf, Eirik and their men had chosen to fight rather than surrender, but they were swiftly overwhelmed and taken prisoner. The human soldiers and priests were a sorrowful sight. Almost to the last man, they were overcome with the illness from food and shelters contaminated by bird faeces. It was a degrading illness, Thaelen thought, taken aback by the stink. The inside rebelled with an urgency that the illness did not leave the men equipped to deal with, and they soiled themselves like children, or, in desperation, pulled their trousers down and defecated where-ever they were, adding to the pestilence and grotesqueness of the campsite. It was horrifying. “What is this? What’s going on?” Rhea asked, her stomach churning at the sight. “There’s going to be a plague,” Grace said grimly. “A very deadly one. It’s not natural—it’s caused by dark magic. It’s spreading fast. And in three days, this entire city will fall.” Rhea’s eyes widened. “Why? What did these people do to deserve this? And what can I do about it?” “You must stop it,” Grace said. “You’re the only one who can.”

Estella scoffed at me and rolled her eyes. "Now that's better," I commented, and she let out a sigh. "You seem to be doing much better than the last time I saw you," she said, lowering her gaze. "Of course, I am doing much better. I can't say the same about you, though," I said, and she let out an awkward chuckle. "Do I look that bad?" "Not really. It's obvious that you're not feeling well," I stated, and she nodded. "You heard about the plague? It turns out that I've been infected. What's strange about it is that it can't be spread through contact. It's some sort of dark magic that was released into the air," she said, and I stiffened in my chair.

He said. William was intrigued, he never knew the bishop could know anything about the Incessants "Tell me what you know bishop!" He commanded and Bishop Daimon nodded affirmatively. "As my father explained to me before his death," he began facing them except William who just listened attentively "He said something about the very first plague after the genesis of enlightenment, he said after the emergence of the hidden world came the first plague that kept humanity and all creatures in darkness for thousands of years." He said looking at William's face and the fallen council nodded in confirmation.

She muttered, clearly perturbed, “The last drift didn’t take out our kind this fast, Alpha. Something ominous is seriously happening.” My hands went numb as I stared at the body in front of me. The distant feeling all rushed back in one bout, the pain i’d forced deep down to survive all these eyes, now raring its ugly head out as the memory of my mother came crashing down. The Black Plague. It was back. I could barely get the words out as I stared at Imelda. I hoped she didn’t notice how shaken I was, “Why now? It’d been gone for years?! Why now?”

Babi pov I went in to change but I wanted to take a shower so I headed towards the washroom. Maybe it was because of tequila I wasn’t feeling a little bit dizzy. I felt like I was walking on a tight-fitted rope. My mind was under full control but my body was on its own. It wasn’t working as it planned. I saw soap lying on the floor and I panicked like hell. It was already really hard to walk straight, and as soon as I saw soap, in an attempt to dodge it I fell on the floor really badly.

Everyone was guilty either in complicity or inaction. Nevertheless, I wasn’t as frenzied as the Ravens. And I bore witness to how, in the event of a great pestilence, the line between the living and the dying blurred. There were more than a few executions that passed unaccounted for. It was all I could do stop the insatiable Ravens from preying mindlessly.
