“During the Middle Ages,” Talen murmured quietly. “When the Black Plague struck, they would lock entire neighbourhoods into the streets and houses. Those within would live, or die, until the doors were again unlocked. Usually, they would die, often of starvation if not from the disease or being shut in with the festering corpses of their loved ones. The doors would be painted with red crosses when they were nailed shut, to signify that beyond was infected.”
“Yeah,” Aislen said with a grimace. “A few too many similarities there for my liking.”
