Just then a Navy blue Mercedes Benz pulls up in front of me, the engine roaring. I stand there, frozen in place staring at the slick looking car. The driver's window rolls down to reveal Raymond wearing a pair of black Aviators classic sun shades. He turns his head to me and I stare at him in awe. I notice his head dip and come back up, but I can't say for certain what he's staring at. "Get in the car Jasmine, you're late! Damon hates tardiness" I snap out of my daze, rushing to the other side of the car I pull the passengers door open and hop in, careful not to shut my leg as I pull the door closed behind me.

Useless. There’s a sleek black car parked outside, with the insignia of a phantom on the hood. A Rolls Royce by the looks of it. Marcello walks up to the passenger side and opens the door. “ Get in” I just stare at him like he’s gone crazy. He flashes a quick look at his wristwatch and looks back at me. “ I’m a busy man, Zara Parkinson. Get in” I fold my hands over my chest “ I’m going nowhere with you.”

He just walked down the street like he didn’t have a single care in the world, calm as you like, and then he stopped. That’s when I saw it. A sleek, black luxury car parked a little way down the road. The kind of car that screamed money. Not the flashy, look-at-me kind of money either—this car was subtle, dangerous. The windows were tinted, and the paint gleamed under the streetlights like polished onyx. “What the…” I blinked, my brain struggling to catch up as Ramon opened the door like it belonged to him, slid into the driver’s seat, and started the engine.

She fidgeted in her seat, her eyes darting anxiously to the entrance each time someone walked in, her heart leaping with false hope again and again. Until finally—A man in a tailored business suit entered. “I’m sorry for the delay,” he said, approaching the officers. “The boss is currently in a meeting. I was sent as his representative.” Belle looked up. Her heart sank. It wasn’t him. “This is the CEO’s black card,” the manager explained eagerly, showing it to the man. “We recognize it anywhere. Only a few people in the country own one. Yet today, it was used by… her.” His tone carried thinly veiled disdain.

I was tired of my man being the one on the front line, taking bullets and catching bombs while I remained tucked away and safely. Although the rest of the cars around the base were all black, something about the black, twin-cab van didn’t scream this place.

Maybe it was the cars, or the smell of expensive everything, or maybe it was just him. He led me to a black car parked close to the middle of the garage. It was long and low and sleek, the kind of car that looked like it was made to be in a movie. The paint was so glossy I could almost see my reflection. The windows were tinted dark, and it looked like it had never been driven before. Alpha Liam walked around and opened the passenger door for me. He didn’t say anything. He just looked at me and waited. I blinked and nodded quickly. “Thanks,” I mumbled, stepping inside as carefully as I could.

"You like to make assumptions. The elevator stopped, the sound of a dog growling. What's next? A wolf's tail sticking out of my ass?" Instinctively, I glanced at his butt. Oh, wow, he had a firm butt under his black trousers. Thiery cleared his throat, and I felt my whole face grow warm. He must be thinking I'm weird now. The car waiting in the parking lot was a shiny black Mercedes-Benz Maybach. My eyes widened involuntarily. I'd never seen such a beautiful and sleek car. The black paint even glistened in the light. A middle-aged man got out of the driver's side door and swiftly opened it for Thiery.

“What’s wrong?” “There’s a car here.” “Define car.” “Black sedan. Parked across the street.” “Is that unusual?” “It’s the second day in a row.” Grant went quiet. “Same vehicle?” “Yes.” “Anyone inside?” “Can’t see.” Grant’s voice sharpened slightly. “License plate?” Damian stepped closer to the window and carefully adjusted his angle. The numbers came into view beneath the rear bumper. He read them silently before speaking. Grant typed quickly on his keyboard on the other end of the call.

“You’ve got this. And it’s Paris. You can’t turn this down.” I forced a smile, nodding slowly. “Yeah. It’s Paris.” But even as excitement fluttered beneath my skin, that familiar weight settled in my chest. I’d have to tell Dad. And I wasn’t sure how I’d feel leaving him behind. As I walked down the narrow street toward our little place, the first thing that caught my eye was the sleek black car parked just outside. A matte black Rolls-Royce Phantom. The kind of car that didn’t belong in this part of town. Its dark windows were impenetrable, the glossy paint reflecting the dim glow of the streetlights. My chest tightened.

He was the only car on the road.
