Philosophy Book To Read Novels & Stories

he muttered, more to himself than anything else. His eyes landed on the shelf. Books. He walked over, scanning the titles until one caught his attention. “How to Be a Better Man.” He let out a small, dry laugh under his breath. Of course. He pulled it out and stared at the cover for a moment before opening it and flipping through the first few pages. The words were simple. Straightforward. Advice. Steps. Explanations. He tried to read. He really did. But after a few lines, his mind drifted again.

"Mind if I look at what you´ve bought?" She pushes her bags towards him, James working his way through her book stack, raising eyebrows at some of her choices, muttering to himself as he does so. "´Modern Cosmology and Philosophy´, ´The Chronicles of Narnia´, ´The Mythology of the Ancient Greeks´, Asimov´s ´The Gods Themselves´, ´Fundamentals of Physics: Mechanics, Relativity, and Thermodynamics´, ´The Complete Sherlock Holmes´, Lovelock´s ´Gaia´, ´Pride and Prejudice´... I want to read it again, for brain stormings that have been frozen for a long time due to daily matters. "Do you like reading a book?!"

That intense, emotional conversation where I told him I wasn't ready to forgive but was willing to see if he'd changed. Since then, we've seen each other in passing. At meals. In corridors. But we haven't spoken. "I was just—" Kaelen gestures vaguely at the shelves. "Looking for something to read. Being confined gets boring." "I can imagine." Another awkward pause. Then I notice the book in his hand. "Philosophy of Mind? That's pretty dense reading." "I've always liked philosophy." He looks surprised I noticed. "The questions about consciousness and identity. What makes someone who they are."
