I opened the basket. Inside was... A jar of pickles. A cheese plate. A fluffy, soft blanket. And curled around the whole thing… a narrow, body-length pillow. I stared at it all for a good thirty seconds. Pickles? Cheese? A pregnancy pillow? What... was this? A laugh bubbled up inside me—half bewildered, half hysterical. Was this a joke?

The bedding is lux and there are more playful animals and extra, folded, ecru satin-quilted blankets. I have no doubt there is a wired sound and surveillance system for tranquil music and 24/7 monitoring. I also spy a flat screen for playing movies and videos. Nick has probably even ordered a gaming platform, regardless of this being a nursery. He’ll be several steps ahead of and well-prepared for an overachiever. The waterworks return. How could they not? As he took the book, a photo fell out.

As soon as we were inside, we walked down the hallway and made our way into the private library. "There's a cozy reading nook toward the far right side of this library. We can have our conversation there." She said, her tension palpable. Sensing her unease, I remained silent as we made our way to the reading nook she was talking about. "Woah." I whispered in astonishment as we arrived at the reading nook. The reading nook was nestled in the corner, surrounded by dark wood bookshelves. There was a central table and a plush cushioned couch, adorned with pillows and a blanket.

“Why do we need throw pillows?” “We’re going to have families come over for a sleepover. What’s a sleepover without pillows?” “Mom, we’re not thirteen.” “Oh please, it’s still fun.” Sure. Noah’s dad came back and went straight to my mom. They continued to yap away leaving me to just watch them I felt a tug from my jeans. I turned around and it was Noah. He handed me a nylon, then pointed to my phone. I pulled out my phone and saw a text from him.

The thing even has pockets where the TV remote now hides. “This is really cool.” I say wiggling back a little more. “Rhea recommended it and this one is specially made. She said that the usual nursing pillows can be awkward and uncomfortable when you have to sit up, so she cam eup with this idea. She asked for this back pillow to be made and it has an attachable piece that wraps around you and creates the nursing pillow.” He walks to the closet and comes back with a half circle pillow and I life Selene up so he can wrap it around my waist.

NOAH'S POV The pillow wall was a fucking joke. It had lasted less than two hours before surrendering completely. Pillows had slipped, tilted, and finally fallen, leaving nothing but rumpled sheets and open space between us. I lay on my back in the dark, one arm behind my head, staring at the ceiling while the city lights bled faintly through the curtains. Sleep wasn’t coming. Not tonight and definitely not with Elena lying right there. The air conditioning hummed quietly, but it did nothing to cool the heat crawling under my skin.

Her book nook, favorite chunky knit blanket, and a good book were calling her name. Claire stepped into her room and just took a deep breath. The light gray walls with the white furniture helped open up the small space and the two floor-to-ceiling windows helped bring in the natural light from outside. She loved the clean and crisp feel of her room, it was relaxing. Her “book nook” was just a spot in front of the windows and a massive gray bean bag chair. She grabbed her latest book obsession, her white chunky knit blanket, and plopped into her spot.
