This isn't your typical human/vampire story. Claire is a human, raised by vampires. She grew up alongside werewolves and other Mythicals. But what happens when an old "family friend" visits and her world is turned upside down? Will she choose the life expected of her or will she fight for the life she wants?
View MoreIt had been a long time since Claireâs mind wandered to thoughts of Malachy. Sure every once in a while her thoughts drifted to him. The same questions repeated: What was he doing? Was he happy? Did he think of her? Miss her? She waved those thoughts away as they made it to the table. Brady whirled around with a shot glass for Claire when he splash one against the hard chest of Lex. âOh shit. Iâm so sorrâŚâ Bradyâs mouth dropped, looking at Lex. âHhhhii... Iâm Brady and you are absolutely gorgeousâŚâ Lex chuckled as everyone else burst into laughter. âWell, thank you. You are exquisite as well. Iâm Alexander.â His eyes flashed red for a second before Claire slapped his arm, giving him a warning glare as she mouthed, âwatch it.â No one else seemed to notice their exchange. Bradyâs face flushed at Lexâs comment and he had to take a drink to cover it up. Having never seen Brady this flustered around anyone before, Claire thought it was adorable. She kept watching them from the corner
Lavender and vanilla. The faint scent caused his head to whip around, scanning the room for the source. He knew that smell, even though it had been years since he had been in its presence. From the darkened back corner, his eyes focused on a small group along the wall about 50 feet in front of him. The tall blonde had her back to him, but he could see the two guys she was with: Sean, the werewolf pup, and an unknown brunette, who looked like a pipsqueak next to the wolf. The blonde spun around and waved towards the entrance with a huge smile on her face. His eyes followed the trajectory and his breath caught in his chest.Claire. She waved back to Quinn, completely oblivious to everyone in the room. She made her way to the bar, leaning over to talk to the bartender. His eyes wandered over her form. She had more curves to her body. The leather pants only hinted at that fact. The corset emphasized her hourglass figure and the white off the shoulder top revealed her slender neck, sho
Logging out of her computer, Claire turned off her desk light, grabbed her clutch and keys, and shouted, âIâm heading out for the night, Robyn. Iâll see you on Monday!â Robyn, the only other person in the office and her boss, poked her head out of the doorway and giggled. âOOOO. Thatâs right! You have your blind date tonight. Have fun! And donât do anything I wouldnât do!â she yelled back. Claire shook her head and mumbled to herself, âthereâs nothing that you wouldnât do.âRobyn stretched her neck to look out her office door. âWhat was that?ââNothing! Have a good night!â Claire swiftly headed out the door and checked out her reflection in the glass door. Youâve got this! Itâs just a first date. She pumped herself up.Her hair was shorter, about shoulder length, and her black pleather leggings clung to her figure, accentuating every curve. She wore a black leather corset over an off the shoulder white ruffle-sleeved top, simple black heels and, as always, her opal pendant and simp
The golden rays peaked through the leaves of the trees, the breeze causing the light to flicker through the branches. The clouds overhead were a beautiful mix of deep purple, lavender, and fuchsia.Claire sat on the deck with a cup of coffee in her hands, trying to take in as much of this beautiful, calm scene as she could. Everyone was still asleep in the house. Quinn stayed the night, so they could leave somewhat early. They loaded the cars with the essentials and filled them with gas, ready for the long journey to Chicago. They were hoping to get to the condo at a decent hour, so they could get settled in and try to explore the city before classes started in the fall. Muscular arms surrounded her, pulling her from her thoughts. âYou ready for this?â Zach plopped into the seat beside her. She nodded, âyeah. Time for me to spread my wings and all that shit.â They both chuckled while watching the sunâs rays poke through the clouds. He nudged her shoulder, gaining her attention.
The stage was set.The diplomas centered on the table, and the lectern placed on the far side. Aluminum folding chairs arranged into two columns and multiple rows with an aisle down the middle. The graduating seniors waited in the end zone to make their walk to the 50 yard line and leave their high school years behind them. Parents and loved ones filled the stands as they watched the sea of black gowns and hats, took pictures, and yelled at their graduates.Jack and Marian had a good vantage point of the stage as they waited for the ceremony to start. They were scanning the crowd while glancing at their phones.âI canât believe sheâd be late for this, of all things! Come on Steph. Pick up your damn phone.â Jack shook his phone in his hand when Marian put it between both her hands. âCalm down. Today is a happy day! Steph will be here before... Look, there she is!!â Marian shot up, waving her hands above her head, catching Stephâs eyes. Steph grabbed Bradâs arm and dragged him up to wh
âGood Morning, Sweetie.ââMorning Pops.âJack was pleasantly surprised to find Claire awake and functioning this early. She was out pretty late at the cast party with Sean and Quinn last night. âI thought youâd still be asleep with Quinn and Sean. Yâall were out pretty late last night.âClaire took a sip of her coffee. âyeah well, Iâve been trained to wake up early and unlike those two, I didnât drink. My stomach is killing me, though.â She tentatively rubbed her stomach slowly. It was tender, and she didnât want it to feel worse. âI think I ate too much.âJack just stared openmouthed at his daughter, âYou? Ate too much?â He rushed to the window, plastering his face against it as he looked to the skies. âWhat are you doing, Pops?â He didnât look at her, but kept his gaze outside. âLooking for the flying pigsâŚâ He turned his head just in time for the towel Claire threw to smack him in the face. âYouâre funny old man.âWalking to the coffeemaker, he poured himself a cup before sittin
The palm trees swayed in the salty breeze, cool as it came off the oceanâs surface. Taking a deep breath, Jack took in the intoxicating scent as he sipped his whiskey. He perched himself along the white stone railing that overlooked the ocean from the steep cliff face. Xavier and Ramona walked up beside Jack with their glasses of champagne. âIâm surprised to not see your little family in attendance. Especially the little Claire. Is she doing well?â Xavier took a sip of his glass, waiting for Jackâs response.Ramona gave a knowing smile as he answered, âShe had a lot going on and it isnât the right timing for her to be away right now. But I will let her know of your concern for her absence.â He gave a half smile at Xavier, causing him to turn and walk away.âShe will be fine, Jack. Sheâs a tough cookie and she will do wonders. Youâve raised an amazing young woman and you should be proud.â Ramona softly touched Jack on the back as she noticed Malachy walking towards them. âYour Highnes
Marian loaded the bags into the back seat of her sedan.âJust donât go crazy. No parties. No boys. No booze. In any form, in any order, and especially not together.â Jack pointed at a finger at his daughter, Sean and Steph. The teens all nodded their heads in agreement. âYes, sir.ââScoutsâ honor, sir.â Steph held up three fingers on her right hand. âYou were never a girl scoutâŚâ Claire stated with a questioning look.âI was a brownie for like four months when I was like 7. Once a brownie, always a brownie.â Steph cooed with a shrug of her shoulders. This caused everyone to burst into laughter.âDonât worry Pops. Youâll be back before you know it. Tell everyone we said hi and you two enjoy Spain. Iâm sure itâll be lovely.â Claire hugged her father before he and Marian got into the car to leave for the wedding. They agreed to leave a few days early to enjoy themselves before the celebration began. Everyone stood on the front porch as they waved goodbye, watching until the car disappea
âHello, summer! Here we come! Mark my words, this will be epic!â Quinn screamed while bursting into the living room. She dropped her backpack next to the couch before pouncing on Claire, who was napping on the couch. âOoooompffff. What the fuck, Quinn? Some warning next time would be nice.â Quinn rolled off of her and plopped on the floor. âWhatâs got your panties in a bunch? Weâre supposed to go to the mall.â Her voice changed to one of concern when she saw her friendâs face.Claireâs eyes focused on the bright red envelope sitting on the coffee table. Quinn noticed and dove for it. âWhat the fuck is this? From Malachy.â Her eyes grew three times their size as she shouted. âTHE Malachy??â With a shaky breath, Claire nodded her head in agreement. âI think itâs his wedding invitationâŚâ âWHAAAAT????!!!â Quinnâs voice seemed to echo in the house. âYou were messing around with an engaged man? Claire, what in the actual fuck?!â Claire clapped a hand over Quinnâs ridiculously loud mout
