’’ I prayed sincerely, with all my heart. "Roy, I'll need your assistance if I'm going to use this book to lift the curse.I am afraid that years of not using magic have dulled my powers." Amelia said, a hint of sadness buried deep within her words. Amelia limped out of the room as she put the magic book on the table next to all the magic potions. Roy nodded to show his assent and then began to go through the book with her. "It's not here, nor is it here..."

It was hand written. She went on, flipping the book and stopping to read through some parts of it. It was a book about spells and she found herself laughing at the silliness of the thought that magic was still in existence. Some of the spells in the book made Matilda to shake her head and conclude that the book had been written during the time that witches existed. Some of the recipes in the book had ingredients like a two day old crow's blood, the crushed bark of a cider tree, four leaved clovers, mint leaves that had bloomed in the summer and many other bizarre ingredients.

Rita The hall buzzed with energy as students gathered for their first practical magic class. The space, usually reserved for assemblies, had been transformed—circles of salt and herbs marked workstations, and the air hummed with the residue of old spells. Rita stood beside Freda, watching as the instructor—a stout witch with silver-streaked braids—demonstrated a basic energy channeling exercise. "Focus on the earth beneath you," the teacher intoned. "Draw its power, but do not force it. Let it rise naturally."

But instead of old stories from my grandmother’s life, the pages were scrawled with strange symbols and sketches—shorthand in her handwriting explaining the purpose of different runes and sigils. Flipping through the pages, there were sketches of wolves, and the last page that she’d written in had a detailed rendition of a nightmarish wolf-beast that made my blood run cold at the sight of it, it’s eyes smudged over with charcoal in the shape of a protective rune. My heart raced when I realized what I was holding. This was no ordinary journal, it was a spell book.

“I would sense the magic if it were so.” I dismounted and unsaddled Coryfe as the mage sat on one of the branches of the fallen tree and drew from a bag he wore under his cloak, a small book, bound in leather, with curls of metal protecting the corners and clasping the covers shut. “We need a fire,” he said to me, his fingers stroking the cover reverently. There was no writing on the cover or binding, but I could see something had been embossed into the leather. Perhaps the embossing was the shadow of writing that had once been picked out with ink, but which time had faded or flaked away.

The book grasps his attention and he reaches over for it, but rather Takada sets it down on the table and presses on it. “You can look inside them after I have told you what each of them contain!” she raises her voice quite a bit at him, “Like this one here, it contains light magic (She puts down a white book), this one has lightning magic (she puts down another book, a silver one), and this one contains magic that will help you free anyone from demon and spirit possession and be able to contain them or send them back to hell!” “Thank you!” “You’re welcome, now would you like anything to eat or drink as you read the books?”

“I heard of this book as a kid. It's called the book of forbidden spells. Only to be used when one is in dire danger and needs urgent saving.” She stopped at a page and placed it before me. “That is it. Can you even read it?” The page before me seemed like gibberish, rubbish that I could read. When I shook my head at Magma, she sighed and then leaned forward. “Oops, you have to take that off. I forgot. There is no way you can do magic with it on you. That means you'll dispel energy and your scent. Are you willing to risk being found?* I didn't even need to think about it. That was exactly what I wanted.

Steven told her to look in the paid books as well if she saw any that interested her and since Carol had left her some money she nodded and decided to look without worrying about the money because Carol had told her that she would be able to resell her magic pills. She easily found the books she was looking for, there was one on all the level 1 magic herbs with sketches and their characteristics, another one that explained in detail every step of making magic pills and tips on how to avoid failing. There was another one that gave the formulas of all the level 1 magic pills and there were 20 of them, and finally she found one about the 8 flames and what a mage could expect to accomplish when

Like the book knew me. I pushed that thought aside and turned the first few pages. Most of the entries were familiar types of magic—herbal mixtures, minor warding spells, protection charms, and potion recipes. The kind of practical witchcraft that most mages learned during their years at Rosewood. But I wasn’t looking for those. I flipped slowly through the pages, searching for anything that felt even remotely familiar. Anything that might explain the wings. Or the blood. It took several minutes before I found something.
