Chapter One

It was already morning when I realized I was only half way through my Sherlock Holmes book. I used to read faster than that but for the past few days the feeling of being someone else was looming over me. I didn’t want to dwell on that fact and I certainly didn’t want my family to worry about me. “I just have to suck it up until I find out what has been causing this.” I say to myself as I cross my room to my computer. I check my messages or even emails from my professors but there was none. “Geez, even not having to do anything is bugging me.”

Walking out of my room the sudden flash of movement caught my eye.

“AAAH!"

Sil was standing on her door way rubbing her eyes. “Aaaaaahhh.” She repeats unenthusiastically. She was wearing and oversized white t-shirt that had a wolf on it. Under her shirt I saw blue boxers. “Stop scaring me like that then.” I bit back. “I heard you last night.” She said pulling her hands out of her eyes. Her deep green eyes were crystal clear and her black red hair was noticeable. She really likes keeping her hair color a secret, but when the sun hits it, it’s obvious her hair color is unique. I don’t know if I answered her, but I didn’t have too. I just headed for the stairs.

“Thank you.” She mumbled.

Big windows shinned morning light on the brown stair case. I turned right, heading for the kitchen. The living room was brilliantly lighted. Gold colors came from the two huge glasses on either side of the door. Our couches were radiating the same color to the white polished ground. I sat on the chair and leaned my arms on the counter. The white tiled counter was cold and my bear arms froze as soon as I touched it. Sil walked to the fridge and brought out eggs and bacon. She placed them on the counter and brought out a pan from under the counter. She placed it on the stove and placed some oil on the pan. Then she cracked an egg. She kept it untouched and she brought out a plate on top of her. She slid the sunny side egg on the plate and pushed it to me. Then the cracked the other egg and made scrambled for her. She slid the scrambled egg on her plate and she pulled four slices of bacon and fried it. She placed the four slices on my plate and she pulled out two slices for her.

We always had it like this. She would make me breakfast and I would eat. I stood and walked to the fridge and brought out a carton of orange juice. I brought out two glasses and placed them on the counter. Sil was already eating when I placed her glass beside her and filled it with orange juice. I sat opposite of her and ate. “Who was Daylight?” I swallowed. “Who?” I asked her. “You said Daylight over and over again last night.” She said taking a sip from her glass. “I’m not sure.” I lied. “You’re not sure or you’re not going to tell?” she eyed me. “You’ll have to guess.” I said plainly. “You’re not telling.” She said picking her bacon. “How do you know?”

“Because you didn’t say no.”

Damn. I fell for the oldest trick in the book. She always knew how to trick me. Clever. “Fine, she was someone who appeared in my hazy dream.” I say scratching my head. “Hazy?” Sil raised her eye brows. “Yes.” I said fast. “I see.” And she stayed quiet again. I slumped back in my chair. It won’t work this time. Sil always like it the hard way. She would do this so I would give the information voluntarily. “I see you two are up early.” I shuddered. “Mom, you scared the heck you of me.” I turned my seat and saw our parents’ hand in hand walking toward us. “Watch your language.” Mom hissed. “What? Heck?” I mumbled. My mom gave me the side eye that prevented me from saying anything more. “So, any weird dreams for us?” my dad said taking a seat next to me. “None.” Sil grunted. “The last time you said none you ended up in the lobby.” My mom said. Everyone laughed. I wrinkled my nose at the memory. I looked at my plate and the memory flashed.

We were in a hotel, the morning before I told my parents I didn’t have any nightmares. But I lied. Sometime in midnight I was sleep walking. Then I just woke up in the middle of the lobby. A beautiful girl was watching me. “Hi.” I told her. Then I looked down and saw I was only wearing boxers. “It’s hard to explain.” I said looking at her. “Earth to Ian.” She spoke.  I don’t remember her saying anything to me. She looked kind of scary with that expression on her face.

“Ian to Earth. Hello can you hear me?” this is scary. “IAN!” then she slapped me. I snapped.

“What the…”

“Don’t doze of like that.” Sil had a pained expression on her face.

“Where are mom and dad?” looking around, the meddling bodies of my parents were nowhere to be seen.

“They’re in the showers.”

“Both of them?”

“Don’t be so stupid.”

“Watch your tongue young girl.” Mom called from the room. “Great. Hurry up we’re going to the hospital.”

“What?”

“Just to see grandma.”

I knew my parents are doctors but whenever they say hospital my sister and I get nervous. “Now finish up and go clean yourself.” I looked down at my plate but there was hardly any food left. I brought my plate to the sink and pat my sister on the back as a thank you.

“GO! You smell already.” She said washing my plate. I ran for my room and went in the bathroom for a quick shower.

After taking a bath I took out a pair of pants, a t-shirt, and jacket with a pair of sunglasses. I looked at the mirror. I saw a normal teen ager looking back at me. The grey t-shirt was hidden beneath a black jacket and my deep green eyes were hidden behind my shades. I took my Nike rubber shoes and placed a white pair of socks. “Hey, you dressed?” Sil didn’t wait for my answer she just walked right in. Sil was wearing a large shirt that had Mountain Dew on it and she was wearing pants. Her hair was tired now. “You ready?” she leaned on the wall and crossed her arms. “Are you always going to be this boyish?” Walking up to her, obviously showing off my height.

“Yeah, fine you’re taller so what.” She pushed my chest. I laughed. Sil jogged down the stairs. I closed my door and followed her. Mom and dad were waiting for us. “Fix your hair!” she barked at me. I looked at the mirror on the wall and my hair was all wet and messy. I didn’t bother to fix it anyway. “Ian, fix that hair of yours or I’ll have it cut.” I immediately combed my hair with my hands.

The hospital was so cold. Very cold, colder than usual. It made me shudder and I saw Sil shudder too. The patients were all huddled up to keep warm. The white walls and floor bounce shining light everywhere. “Keep up.” Mom said looking back at me and Sil, but I could sense she knew something was wrong too. “This cold is going to be the death of me.” Sil mumbled. Some people were crying on the couches as I walked past them. “Sis, I think you’re not the only one who is dying.”

“Not a very nice joke.”
