I spent several minutes doing an Internet search and decided to analyze a scene from The Prom where one of the main characters, Emma, thinks she’s going to the prom, but she’s really invited to a fake prom, and the real one is across town. I wasn’t familiar with the musical, but I’d read that it was because Emma was a lesbian, and the little town she lived in didn’t want her to bring her girlfriend, which I thought was horribly sad.
