Ruby whines from the backseat since they are both sitting there, and I can't help the smile that laces up my lips. "And I want to marry someone like you when I grow up. You are beautiful and nice," Nathan chips in, and I chuckle softly. "Thank you. I will teach you how to drive when you grow up," I say to Ruby, and she quickly leans forward as she beams with smiles. "Are you serious? Do you promise?" She asks excitedly, and I roll my eyes. What's with her and promise? Well, maybe that is the only way she believes people.

After Helena Ashbourne cheated on me with her male assistant again, my mind came apart. At the lowest point of it, I picked up the fruit knife on the table and meant to end things myself. "Why are you hurting yourself again? Doesn't she like you anymore?" I looked up, and sixteen-year-old Helena was walking toward me with pain all over her face. She spoke gently. "Tell me who she is. I'll make her pay for you." I looked into the bright eyes of the girl in front of me. I didn't say anything. Quietly, I pointed at her face. Later, Helena put me in a psychiatric hospital herself. In the gaps between doses of sedative, the girl sat down beside my bed again. She stared out at the woman

No one moved. I looked at the man and, without thinking, remembered: he had obsessed over Carmilla back in college. "You remember when you and Enzo Romano fought? Carmilla took a bullet for you. Her wound still aches whenever it rains." The man's voice shook with fury. Carmilla wore a look of pain; she clutched at her shoulder like it hurt. A flash of guilt crossed Mario's face. "You think you stand where you stand as Don by yourself?" the man continued. "It's Carmilla—she drank and drank until her stomach bled to win you support. She pleaded and begged to keep you in business.

I couldn't see his expression since I was deep down into my memory lane to notice his tender gaze. "You know, we'd promised each other that we'd marry when we were old. It might sound silly for you but I'd actually held onto that promise for the most part of my life." I smiled ruefully, feeling that familiar ache burn in my chest that came everytime I thought of him. What I didn't tell Adrian was that some part of me was still holding onto that promise, and some part of me was still upset that I broke the other promise. That often left me confused because I liked Adrian kissing me. I scolded myself for thinking like a wanton woman and shook off my thoughts. For a moment, I wondered if he sti

My boyfriend, Marcus Reid, had hearing loss, so he often couldn’t make out what I said. I asked him to buy a skincare set, but he came home with two. "I must have heard you wrong again. I'll just give the extra one to Lauren." I asked him to buy a chocolate cake, but he came home with vanilla. "I heard you wrong. Lauren likes this flavor, l'll just give it to her." Later, I carefully designed our future home and asked him to buy a house for us in Southville. But on the day we were supposed to inspect the house, he drove us all the way to Northville instead. When he noticed that I hadn't said a word the entire time, he apologized, "I'm really sorry. I didn't hear you clearly. I thought you li

Conner inquires while sipping his tea. “I do it for a few reasons. Football is a strenuous sport and it is taxing on the human body. I don't know how it is for dragons, but to humans, the risk of injury is high and it takes a toll on your heart. Firstly, pomegranates contain polyphenol compounds called punicalagin and ellagitannin, that may help prevent cancer and other conditions by stopping artery walls from thickening and reducing cholesterol and plaque buildup. So these compounds help reduce blood pressure, reduce coronary artery disease, and reduce atherosclerosis, too. Secondly, pomegranates are high in fiber, which can help with digestion and protect against digestive diseases like he

He said, “In the future, all the pomegranates on this tree will be yours. No one will take it away from you.” XXX Perhaps It Has the Taste of the Past

"I understand. Slow. No assumptions." "No promises either. Not yet. I know that's hard to hear, but I need us operating on presence, not promises, for a while longer." "Can you explain the difference?" I asked. "I think I understand it, but I want to make sure I actually do, not just assume I do." "Promises are future-focused. Presence is about showing up, today, consistently, and letting that accumulated pattern of showing up become the actual proof, instead of words about what you'll do someday."
