"Yes, she's the 'lucky one,'" Meg laughs. "Why am I lucky?" We sit with them. "Because you work with Nathan Ryan," Amber says, in a way that would convince anyone that Nathan is a god. "Yes, and?" Rachel looks at me as if I've said something absurd. "Oh, my God! She doesn't think he's incredibly hot?" She looks at Meg.

She was in a cream blouse and a pencil skirt that looked painted on. Kira was braless, nipples hard points shooting forward, that I prayed Rachael wouldn't comment on since her eyes were fixed there. "So, Kira." Rachael started, drawling a bit. "How long have you being Ryan's little helper?" What the fuck is wrong with her? I tried using eye signals to try to tell Rachael to stop but she totally ignored me. Kira smiled awkwardly. "Helper? Uhm....I'm his Personal Assistant, Mrs Hale. And it's being almost a year now."

A few seconds later, Kiara was still staring at her with her lips sealed to say a word; the young lady tried to comprehend the mute sadness of sister Mary. The heavy feeling of her constant gaze rose to a panic in the old lady and she licked her lips, looking here and there. To avoid any possible questionnaire from Kiara, she drifted her eyes to Rachel and asked politely, “So, what do you do, child?” Her lips twitched into a hesitant smile. Rachel smiled in response before answering. “I’m a head accountant at an organic product-based company, Ally Natures.” Her reply made the lady smile back at her with a positive nod.

“What’s wrong with Vulcanites?” “Oh, nothing.” She smiled placidly. Before he could get out another word, she launched into introductions without a preamble. “This is Rachel Rutledge,” she said indicating a tan brunette with maple-brown eyes sitting in the armchair next to them. “That’s Ceres Ayers”—she pointed at a beautiful girl with light brown skin and long, luxurious black hair—“and that’s Ricky Collins.” The boy that had his head in the lap of the girl named Ceres, looked like a miniature version of Coach Collins but with gray eyes. “Hey,” James said with a nod and a wave. “You like it here so far?” asked Rachel in a thick Texan accent.

If I need companionship, I should just get a dog. “Hiking Machu Pichu. Attending Carnivale in Rio de Janeiro. Cliff-diving at Maunawili Falls. Backpacking in Europe.” Rachel closed the folder and set it on the table beside her, swiveling her plush leather chair towards Caitlyn. “And an MD/PhD in Molecular Genomics.” Uncertain what she was supposed to say, Caitlyn lifted one shoulder in a slight shrug and nodded. “For as quiet of a woman as you are, you’re quite an adventurer.”

She was dressed in clothes so colorful they almost hurt my eyes after the drabness of pack life and the somber tones of Austin’s mansion. “Hi!” she chirped, her voice as bright as her outfit. “You must be Selena! I’m Rachel Moreau, but everyone calls me Rach. Mr Thorne hired me to, like, totally get you up to speed on stuff!” She bounced on the balls of her feet, radiating an energy that felt completely out of place in this cold, quiet house. I just stared at her. This bubbly creature was going to teach me how to be...what? Less like a wild animal dragged from a river?
