Kael was still now, his focus entirely on her words. He slowly turned from the balcony. His expression was unreadable, but the professional hunter was listening.
“A black powder,” he repeated, his voice low and flat. “Gritty. With an acrid, metallic smell.” He took a step toward her, his green eyes intent. “Could you smell sulfur? A scent like rotten eggs?”
Elira thought for a moment, then nodded. “Yes. Faintly, underneath the other smells.”
