My chest still feels tight, like the air in the room isn’t enough. It fades eventually. It always does. I swing my legs off the bed and cross the room, careful not to make noise even though I’m alone tonight. My backpack sits by the desk. I unzip the front pocket and dig around until my fingers close around a small crinkling wrapper. Peach candy. I unwrap it and toss the candy into my mouth. The sweetness hits my tongue immediately, sharp and artificial and familiar. I suck on it slowly, letting the flavour settle before biting down.

Max asked suddenly, looking up at me with big, hopeful eyes. “Of course,” I said, walking toward the kitchen. “What do you want?” “Candy,” Max said with a grin. “No,” Adrian interjected immediately. Max frowned. “Why not?” “Because candy isn’t a snack. It’s sugar disguised as food,” Adrian said firmly. I rolled my eyes. “Don’t listen to him. I’ll find something fun but healthy, okay?” “Like what?” Max asked suspiciously. “How about some fruit and peanut butter?” I suggested.

"This fruity one's too sweet, and the chocolate's too heavy. Maybe we should skip the candy for the favors?" Jade scrunched her brow. "We have to include candy. It's a Greenville thing." Helma gave a nonchalant shrug. "Your turn to taste-test then. I've tried like a dozen already." Jade's smile was soft. "I'm scared I'll pack on pounds if I overdo the sugar." At that, Helma, who was just licking some sticky sugar off her finger, shot her a mock-angry look. "And I won't?"

~Monday, October 31, 2016 - Halloween- Green, yellow, orange, red, blue. Blue, red, orange, yellow, green. Wow, it appears I've mixed up the order in which I'm munching on my Sour Patch Kids. This showcases my current state of boredom in Philosophy class. Now, where was I? Oh, right... Green, yellow, orange... My investigation into the candy packet grinds to a halt as I find it devoid of any remaining contents. I can't help but pout at this discovery; I seem to have devoured the entire package.

It's a giant place with pink walls. "We haven't even walked in and I already feel better. Thanks for bringing me here," I mumble happily and get out of Grayson's horrible car. Candy Lane is the biggest sweet shop in ever, they have all kinds of sweet things, from candy to frapuchinos to cakes. As soon as we are seated, a very animated waitress serves us and we place our orders, but Grayson refuses to tell us his plan until we are eating. While I wait for what I ordered, I walk over to the candy section and buy some popsicles, because the ones I got from that nice cab driver are all gone. I'm not proud of that.
