I don't have a single book with me but that doesn't bother me. I can sleep when I get to the library. I step into the library and immediately feel self-conscious. I can't sleep, not with everyone bending over a book as if they are trying to stop a nuclear war. I stand by the bookshelf, hardly seeing the book and debating going back home. Another Friday night spent alone doesn't excite me. “Having trouble picking what you want?” A voice drawls behind me. I startle and gasp as I turn back. Zane.

I move carefully, lifting porcelain figurines, wiping the mahogany tables, trying to make myself small. The door opens. Cassiel enters, carrying a leather-bound book. He ignores me, sitting in a high-backed armchair near the unlit fireplace and opening his book. I freeze, then resume my dusting on the far side of the room, terrified of making a sound. I climb the small step ladder to reach the top of a bookshelf. As I stretch, my foot slips. I gasp, the ladder wobbling dangerously. I grab the shelf to steady myself, my heart leaping into my throat.

Fancy handwriting on expensive paper. "To educate you on your new archetype." What the hell? I looked at all the books again. And it hit me. These were all stories about girls who got taken. Girls who fell for their captors. Beauty trapped in the Beast's castle. Jane Eyre with creepy Rochester. Christine with the Phantom. He thinks I'm going to fall in love with him. He actually thinks this is some kind of love story. "You're insane!" I yelled throwing the book across the floor. "I'm not a character in your sick fantasy!"

Only then did I allow myself to climb into bed. Not wanting to think too hard about the events of the day, I instead retrieved the purple book from the bedside table and opened it, ready to finally lose myself in a world of fantasy and wonder. It was a book of fairy tales, old ones that I had never heard of before. Beautiful illustrations marked the start of each story, and the letters of the passages had been drawn smoothly and carefully.

Eventually, with my arms full, I found Nicholas still in the fantasy section. He was engrossed in a thick hardcover, his brow furrowed in concentration. “Find something good?” I asked, approaching him. “Possibly. But I think you might like this one.” He handed me a paperback with an image of a woman wielding a sword on the front. I read the title aloud. “‘The Lycan Chronicles.’ Hmm, never heard of it.” “It’s a fantasy series,” he explained, still flipping through his own book. “Great world-building, complex characters...” He glanced up and smirked. “Plus, it has some... steamy scenes.”

"This gives us plenty of time." I led Andrew through the towering shelves, a testament to countless stories waiting to be discovered. "This," I began, gesturing grandly to a section filled with vibrant covers, "is our fantasy section. It's surprisingly popular, even with the rise of e-readers." He listened with a deep, focused interest, his eyes scanning the spines as I spoke. We moved from genre to genre, me explaining the most sought-after titles, him occasionally pulling out a book and flipping through its pages, a thoughtful expression on his face.

She spreadeagled her long limbs, claiming the whole king-sized bed. Magnificent. "Okay." "Okay what?" "Okay, you can— what you said. Jeez, I don't even know your name." I moved between her legs. Plenty of room there to spread out and enjoy myself. "Yes you do. Think of the man in your fantasies. His name is the same as mine. What's my name?" "When I was a teenager, I used to think about this guy, he was four years older than me. He was beautiful."

It is undoubtedly old, and the spine is now gradually falling. "It's my favorite classic romance novel. Although I was looking for a classic fantasy book here, that one attracted my eye." "I'm not a big fan of romance—" She cut me off, "I'm the same way! Fantasy is my favorite genre. But don't worry, because once you read it, you won't have any regrets, and you'll even thank Sierra McCarthy for recommending such a treasure to you!," She exclaimed, winking at me.

He headed into the kitchen, shaking his head at me with a grin. I smiled at him and relaxed, grabbing a book off one of the end tables. I read the back cover, pretty sure it was once of Tristan’s and not one of mine as I didn’t recognize it. The description read like a run of the mill fantasy. Group of experienced adventurers traveling the lands in an attempt to stop some long trapped evil that was threatening to re-emerge. I opened it, reading it without paying too much attention so I didn’t get sucked in. I had lost myself countless tales over the years, using them as an escape in my younger years, avoiding the realities that were starting to take hold in my world.
