I pick up one of them, see that it's about good and evil fairies that are at war, and quickly put it back. I am not reading four hundred pages of fake conflict and two fairy hunks fighting over a fairy princess. Give me a cliché werewolf or vampire story any day.

Books are oxygen for the literate. For me, there's no other way to breathe. Breathing comes naturally to living organisms. For a nerd with a perfect attendance record and zero friends, air fills my lungs, and words fill my head. I like filling my head with facts, opinions, and fanfiction. There's nothing better than reading Harry Potter and Lord of the Rings fanfics on a Friday night.

I knew what was in most fantasy books: fantastical creatures and places, protagonist wins via antagonist revealing plans in some way, damsel in distress, adventure, conclusion, blah boring blah. "Where's mental illness?" "Where are parent MC's?" "Where's the government structure in fantasy books?" "Where's the tie in between worlds?" "Where's the villain who knows not to brag about their plan?" These were things I asked. So after years I created the universe, governments (loosely,) characters, plot and began. I had 5 books completed after 7 years but decided to read through it all. I did not like what I read.

I deserved better, this stupid year was just kicking my ass. I made my way straight to the books about fantasy creatures, realizing that they were surprisingly many. Young Adult fantasy is a thing...like a big deal, I noted reading through so interesting titles, but not the specific one I was looking for.

But if shifters were more like the ones in these books, life would be a little more exciting in a pack. I wander around the bookstore until I found the fantasy section. Mystery and romance are nice but I like a good fight scene or two. I like my main character to be a badass or at least trained into being a badass. I read through a few s descriptions and decided on the perfect one. I headed up to the counter to make my purchase. The cashier had a bright smile and was very bubbly in the way she talked. "Hi!
