Gabriel had wandered into the library, running his flashlight along the spines of the books, and called back over his shoulder.
"There's a reading log in here. Handwritten. Someone kept track of which children finished which books, every month, for years." He pulled the ledger free and flipped through it carefully. "Whoever kept this cared enough to celebrate a seven-year-old finishing a chapter book. That's not the handwriting of someone running experiments."
"It's Isabella's," Isaac said, glancing at the page over his shoulder. "I'd recognize it anywhere by now."
Nobody said anything for a moment, the weight of that settling over the room quietly.
