“In this room?”
I let my eyes roam slowly, deliberately. “Why?” I said softly, leaning back against the headboard. “Can’t I come to see my wife?”
Her glare sharpened, defiance sparking like flint. “No, you can’t. And don’t call me your wife.”
I chuckled softly, shaking my head, letting my gaze linger. The robe moved slightly as she shifted, and my pulse jumped in ways I didn’t want to acknowledge.
The temptation to step forward and pull her closer was almost unbearable, but I resisted — not because of restraint, but because the chase, the tension, was far more delicious than yielding.
