I pulled Jasmine into a hug, holding her in despite her constant struggles until she gave in. We fell on the floor, playing with each other's hair and laughing like we had the whole world to ourselves. I stared at the scene in shock. I remembered none of this. Jasmine was the Seeker Wolf, the one my father had always warned me to avoid. The one Lucy had insisted was dangerous. Yet, here I was—my younger self—wrapped around her like she was my entire universe. “What is this?” I whispered. Elara exhaled beside me. “A memory,” she said. “One you weren’t supposed to forget.”

As soon as my butt hit the seat, I felt another sharp pain and I cried out as a vision occurred behind my eyelids. I was running in a forest with a man. “Daddy, daddy! You can’t catch me!” The little girl giggled as she ran, brown hair floating in the wind as she ran. “Aria! Don’t run so fast! You’ll fall down!” The man chuckled as he wrapped his arms around her torso and pulled her up onto his shoulders. Is that girl, me? Am I getting a memory? I tried to concentrate further on what was happening when my eyes blinked open and I was back in Zach’s car.

For the head cook Mary, I will think of the nursery rhyme Mary Mary quite contrary; for Sunny, I will think of funny Sunny, and finally for Jesse, I will think of messy Jesse. I never forget names as I think of something cute to rhyme with their name or a saying. As I leave, they were all impressed I remembered their names. Adam had good people around him and I was going to enjoy staying at the Red Pine Pack for the next year. Provided I could avoid Adam and Wendy.

The more I try to remember, the more I forget,and the aches in my head got even worse every time I try.
