Resurrecting The Genius Within Novels & Stories

My heart did cartwheels inside my rib cage—wild, uncontrolled somersaults—as if it had finally remembered what it was to live again. My hormones were in disarray, sparking like frayed wires. The voice, that voice, had jolted my soul awake—and my body was following suit, inch by inch, cell by cell, breath by breath. Someone—this mysterious, divine someone—had done the impossible. They had revived my wolf. After the Chester devastation. After the cold-blooded rejection that had nearly killed me. After all the nights I had screamed into pillows and clawed at walls and wept into the wind… Zeneca had refused to return.

0-0-0-1. Green light. The safe clicked open. I pulled the heavy door back. Inside there was no money. There was only a single thick leather binder. I pulled it out. I opened it on the desk. My blood ran cold. The title page read: PROJECT GENESIS: The Resurrection of the Primal Bloodline. I flipped the pages. There were photos. horrific photos. Men strapped to tables. Women hooked up to machines. They were trying to create a super-wolf. An Alpha who could shift without pain. An Alpha who had no human weakness.

“Start with Ward C. I want to see the progress on Project ReGenesis.” Silver’s head snapped up at that. “ReGenesis?” she echoed softly. She's heard her great grandmother talk about it in her last conference meeting. Detroit gave her a glance, a small flick of his eyes that almost resembled amusement. “It’s one of the institute’s ongoing projects. Gene restoration therapy for neural decay.” Her brows furrowed. “Like for Alzheimer’s?” “Yes,” he said, his tone gentling slightly. “And more than that — trauma, paralysis, genetic defects. We’re rewriting how the human body remembers itself.”

I gripped the edge of the table until my knuckles turned white. Jarrah leaned down slightly, resting his fingertips on the back of the chair across from me. His eyes locked onto mine with an unsettling, intense focus. "Banjo Vance is a blind fool," Jarrah whispered, his breath cold. "He thinks he is a king because he inherited a marble tower. He does not see that the foundation was hollowed out months ago. But you are smart. You have your father's sharp mind. Do not let your pride make the same mistake he did."

I finish my studies and return to the company, only to find my wife, Sophia Cooper, holding a wedding ceremony with her assistant, Robert Miller. Sophia asks me to give them a wedding gift. "It's our big day, so don't be a cheapskate. Give us at least ten grand." I stand rooted to the spot. If memory serves, it's actually our fifth wedding anniversary today. "Is this some kind of joke? Cut it out—" I force myself to come up with an excuse for them. Robert cuts me off contemptuously. "Ms. Cooper promised me that if I could provide the company with a new miracle drug, she'd put on a wedding gown and marry me. Now, place your wedding gift on the left, and help yourself to the divorce agr

“That feeling of being reborn from despair is very compelling. What inspired you, Ms. William?” My fingers tightened slightly around my coffee cup. The inspiration came from the hallucinations I saw on the seventh day after Ethan’s presumed death, after I swallowed a bottle of sleeping pills. It came from the fleeting sense of relief I felt, night after night, when I dragged a blade across my own skin. “Nothing in particular,” I said calmly. “I just think that once something is broken, it’s broken. Even if you piece it back together, the cracks remain. So you might as well shatter it and rebuild it from scratch.”

“Signal bouncing through Arctic satellites.” Elena felt a chill. “He’s broadcasting.” Lucas decrypted fragments. A symbol appeared onscreen: A phoenix rising behind a double-helix strand. Adrian frowned. “What does it mean?” Elena recognized it instantly. “Project ReGenesis.” Lucas searched rapidly. “Archived theoretical initiative… next-generation human enhancement models.” Adrian stared at the symbol. “He’s rebuilding.” Elena’s voice turned cold. “He’s evolving.” --- A recorded message suddenly activated.

My sister, Cindy Gardner, and I are fraternal twins. She gets to be the elder sister because she comes out one minute before me, making me the younger brother. Luckily, there's little difference between us when it comes to intelligence. Throughout our school years, one of us always ranks first, and the other comes in second. But after three years of competing in high school, with me coming in second every time, I calmly agree to keep her secret about dating a delinquent named Rodney Sloan. Then the guaranteed-admission spots to Belton University, the country's top university, become available. Our homeroom teacher calls Cindy and me into her office. "There are two guaranteed-admission

The silence in the hall deepened, the kind of heavy, expectant quiet that precedes a storm. On the dais, the Rector of Harvard Business School adjusted his glasses, the parchment in his hand crinkling into the microphone like a sudden burst of static. "Every year," he began, his voice resonant and aged, "We witness brilliance. But rarely do we witness a transformation that redefines the very standard of this institution. This year’s recipient of the Distinguished Master’s Award did not just excel, they rewrote the curve. They proved that grit is the ultimate currency."

The one I wore the night he proposed. Victoria’s work. I picked it up. Put it on. It smelled like mildew and the girl I used to be. I opened my bank app. One last time. _Account Frozen._ I started laughing. The sound tore out of me like a nail from wood. I walked out the front door. Into the storm. Barefoot. The gate was locked. I climbed it. Steel cut my palms. My feet. I hit the pavement on the other side. Blood mixed with rain.
