He never asked about my days at school, never questioned why I spent my afternoons reading dusty books by the mango tree instead of playing with Zane. It was a quiet afternoon, the sun shining lazily in the sky. I was engrossed in a worn-out copy of Treasure Island, the adventures of Jim Hawkins, a welcome escape from monotony. A rustle in the bushes pulled me from my book. My heart pounded. Had Zane followed me? Was he about to launch another one of his "pranks"?

V. Sitting in the back of Alpha Jackson's big SUV I had my eyes closed. Not asleep, just resting. The Alpha, Luna, and three boys were sending me to the airport. Our pack being as big as it was, had it's own airport. It was just a small one. We used it only when we needed to. If we wanted to go to Seattle for the day we just drove. But if we needed to catch a flight at Sea-Tac this was the best way to get there. Also if someone out of town was coming in to visit we used our plane to bring them here. But mostly we drove to where we needed to go when we weren't in a rush. "I wonder if Venus has settled on her plane yet?" Luna Alice asked.

I can’t wait to see where I’m going to be staying. “Hi Ms.Sinclair, I’m Jefferson. I’ll be your driver for the rest of your trip.” Jefferson opens the door for me and grabs my luggage and begins loading my things into the truck. It doesn’t take him long to finish putting the bags away and start up the engine. In seconds we are propelled forward and we’re on our way to our next destination. After an hour we pull up to what has to be the most luxurious beach house I’ve ever seen in my life. It takes a minute for me to fully take in the view. I’m pulled out of my trance by Jefferson opening the door for me.

He smiled relieved. The drive was something, we were in the car with David and Zac, and they started to party before we even came to the restaurant. The interesting thing was that there was no alcohol involved, no one was drunk, but everyone was happy. I remember in the old days before we even came to a party we started to drink, we were out of control. We did things that we would not remember in the morning, nevertheless, we would find out on Facebook or Instagram. Usually, us being idiots and me hiding from Nat with some girl. That is why all of this now is so different and new, but different in a good way.

I lay beside her that night, yet I barely slept. After returning to the city, life quickly fell back into its usual rhythm. Work, home, meals, sleep... Everything seemed unchanged, as if that trip had been nothing more than an ordinary getaway. However, something had quietly shifted. Shanine seemed to like Phoebe even more after the trip. She brought up the vacation from time to time, praising how considerate Phoebe had been and how thoughtful she was. She even started enthusiastically planning where the three of us should travel next.

Road Trip The old SUV hummed down the empty highway, windows down, hot summer air rushing in. Three guys had been driving for nine hours straight from college to the coast — a cheap summer road trip to blow off steam before senior year. Alex was behind the wheel, hands loose on the steering wheel, tank top sticking to his sweaty chest. He was the tallest, broad-shouldered, the quiet “straight” one who always organized everything. In the passenger seat sat Ryan — cocky, athletic, loud-mouthed, the guy who never shut up about girls. In the backseat, legs stretched out, was Noah — the quiet, openly bi roommate who had tagged along at the last minute with a knowing little smile.

Her personal life was always put aside. "Third book," she whispered to herself as she starts to drive. "That's shooting for the moon." It's past seven in the evening but compared to many previous nights, it's an early time out for her. It's like leaving the office and hitting the road in the afternoon. The lights are a refreshing sight. She takes the same route and passes the same road every night but it's only now that she noticed the bright lights.

They grabbed my bags and loaded them in the Tahoe. I took the cigarettes out of my purse and threw them in the trash. Then I walked around the motel room to make sure we didn't leave anything behind. While Brodie and Deck had a deep discussion by the car. When Deck folded himself into my car I came out and waved bye then climbed in the Tahoe. I had no idea where we were going because Brodie had not mentioned anything besides saying check out was eleven-thirty and we needed to be out by then.
