I snap the book shut, looking up as a man walked in, dressed in a white robe, carrying a first aid box in one hand, and a suitcase in the other. I search his eyes for a golden glow, any sign that he was being controlled. "I'm Doctor Karl." He drops his bags and pats a spot on the bed. "I suggest you come over so I can give you a check-up and rule out any chances of an infected wound."

“Okay, okay.” “I can go back myself.” “It’s okay, don’t worry.” “Okay, good night. Bye.” She ended the call, and turn to look at me. “Bonnie said whoever you beat earlier, has several cuts, but nothing serious.” “I’m sorry.” “You can apologize directly to him when he-” “No, I’m apologizing to you.” I cut her off. Rosie sighed and massage her temple. “I don’t think you are the type who involves violence to solve problems.”

I checked my breathing for its sake, despite the fear tearing away at me. Damien kept on fighting, rushing at the two rogues, plowing one to the ground with such a force that the ground trembled beneath me. He tore it apart with his claws, but a second one sprang at his side. He spun, a moment too late, as teeth ripped into his shoulder. My heart twisted while blood spattered, but he took the shot without flinching. He used his neck to pull back the head of the creature and broke its vertebrae with a sickening snap.

I said, shooting him a glare for spitting actual facts. Roman shrugged, "Yeah, that's exactly why I taught my boys down there to give the Y-chromosome and nothing more." I huffed out and leaned back into the chair. I rubbed a hand over my face, disappointed at what I found. I was really expecting something big, to find anything suspicious or out of the ordinary about him, but Roman is right, he is fucking clean. Unbelievable. Could it really be just my over-protectiveness blinding me and my instincts that are telling me something is just so wrong about him?
