I peered into the other rooms. “Where’s Robbie?” Her shoulders slumped and she looked forlorn. “He joined bandits in the area.” “Why would he do that?” I cried. Robin had always been good. He’d looked out for all of us that were younger than him. Rushing to my rescue more than once.

"Activate the Scorched-Earth plan." The voice on the other end, which belonged to his most loyal subordinate, sounded hesitant. "M-Mr. Freeman, the signal is unstable–" The call was disconnected. He immediately called the trusted aide he had planted inside the board, but a secretary's cold voice came through. "Sorry, he is currently in a meeting with Steve." The call was disconnected yet again. Finally, he called the bank manager in Ravendale, but all he heard was an emotionless robotic voice. "Your security authorization has been revoked."

"This is our absolute last chance. We need to bring him down tomorrow. I am not letting him take that cup from us." The Russian man, this time replying in English, let out a low, menacing laugh that echoed eerily against the brick walls. "Trust me on this one. He is sure to go all out for about five minutes after he takes it. His body will burn with fake energy, but then the collapse will happen. By the time he wakes up, the game’s up, and you’ve won." The hooded man nodded slowly, a dark smile touching his lips, but then his expression hardened again. "What about the other guy? Ken? He’s equally as good, man. He needs to be taken care of too, or he might ruin the plan."

Something that told them this was not a regular summons. "Alpha," one of them said, bowing his head. "What do you need?" "What happened here?" I held up the arrow. "Whose blood is this?" The guards exchanged a glance. The second one spoke. "A group of rogues, Alpha. Five of them. They attacked the eastern weapons storage about an hour ago. We fought them off and took them to the dungeon. They are being interrogated now." Five rogues. My mate was a rogue. I should have been concerned. I should have been asking questions about security breaches and border vulnerabilities. I should have been angry.

“He’s lying to you. Jason and the Rogue King are now enemies of every pack. They won’t bring you and Annie freedom. Freedom only comes if they fall, and that’s what I’m working toward. He covered his eye with one hand, his shoulders shaking in fear. Every breath seemed like a struggle. “You can’t stop them. They have the mad rogues,” he muttered. “Healer Leslie was close to an antidote before I was kidnapped. She has probably completed it now. Without the mad rogues, Jason and the Rogue King are nothing,” I explained. Robin did not answ

“Give me one.” She glanced up innocently. “Nah. Gotta save it for the live show.” I groaned. “You are no help.” “I’m amazing help. I just help with flair.” I shook my head, trying not to smile. “What did I do in a past life to deserve this level of chaos?” Robin shrugged, sipping from her water. “Something heroic. Or really stupid. Could go either way.” We were quiet for a second, then she said, “Hey... worst case, they don’t get along. So what? We still have each other. And tequila. And maybe a YouTube video if someone records the showdown.”
