Five minutes later, Roland stepped in. He was slim and tall, with hair that partly shadowed his eyes. He carried the air of a man sharpened by war. A military background had honed him into something dangerous, deadly as a venomous snake if provoked. His agent’s comment before I hired him echoed now, that he was a man who knew every gun and every city. He bowed silently at the door. That was his way. He never spoke unless absolutely necessary. His silence carried more weight than words ever could.

His voice sounded casual, but his eyes were sharp. I didn’t say much at first—just shrugged. Damien sat down near me, legs stretched out. We stayed quiet for a minute, then he started talking. “Roland’s a player. You know that, right? He can’t stay committed to one person. It’s how he is—always has been. The sponsorship thing is just business. Best you end things with him and forget about it. Walk away clean before it messes you up more.”
