In the Arms of the Enemy’s Brother
This was our first Christmas as husband and wife, and my heart felt so full it might burst.
"Merry Christmas, baby ," he murmured, pulling me closer. His voice was husky from sleep, and it sent a shiver through me. We lay there for a while, just holding each other, listening to the crackle of the fire we'd lit the evening before. The house was cozy, filled with twinkling lights and the scent of cinnamon from the cookies we'd baked.
The day felt calm and beautiful, like everything was moving just right. We started by opening gifts under the tree. Roman had wrapped each of mine neatly, with little notes on them. I gave him his gifts too, and we both smiled and laughed as we opened everything.
