~ Sarah's POV ~ My blood was still roaring like wildfire when I threw open the heavy doors of the ice rink. The freezing air smacked me in the face, but it did absolutely nothing to cool the rage consuming my body. There he was. Saxton was gliding across the ice, practicing with his hockey team. He was laughing so freel, unbothered, and completely detached from the wreckage he'd left behind in my home. Seeing that smug smile on his face made my vision go entirely red.

It was beautiful to watch her in her element, to see the smile on her face when she got the perfect shot. "So, Liam." She asked when they turned into a quiet street. "Hm?" "What's the weirdest thing that's ever happened during a hockey game?" Liam laughed. "Oh... that's a long list." "I've got time." He thought for a moment. "There was one game where our rivals proposed to his girlfriend right in the middle of a game. And she rejected his proposal!" Aria burst into laughter. "No!" Raphael snorted. "And his team still lost the game."

He just watches me with that amused expression. “Let’s go out sometime,” he says casually. I stare at him. “You’re joking.” “No.” “You’re the captain of a professional hockey team.” “And?” “And I don’t date hockey players.” His eyebrow lifts slightly. “You dated one.” “That was a mistake.” His expression shifts slightly. Then his voice lowers. “About Luca.” My chest tightens. “Please don’t.” He studies me carefully. “I can talk to the coach,” he says quietly. “We can assign him to another physio.”

Hockey is a brutally demanding game, not just the physical exertion but everything else that goes with it, hell some players have been seriously injured on the ice. My phone beeps, I have it on vibrate, it’s my sister Henri. “Hey you,” I say as I shift in my seat in the VIP area to get a better look at Alex skating below, he has the puck, it looks like he is going to take a shot. I hold my breath as Henri speaks. “I’m all good, just got the head librarian role and couldn’t wait to tell you. Mom and dad are so happy for me. And I’m seeing someone.”

I groan. “You say something?” She turns with narrows eyes. “Nope, nothing.” Great, so she heard me groaning. Fuckingfantastic. “How about Taking A Shot At Love?” Immi stops in her tracks and puts her hands on those tiny, sexy hips of hers. “It’s a Hallmark movie. You are so fucking with me right now, aren’t you?” “Seriously, darlin’. I am not fucking with you. I love Hallmark movies. I always watch them. Just because I’m some big burly hockey player, doesn’t mean I don’t like a bit of romance.” Honestly, am I that bad?

His other hand grabs onto Dylan’s hip and pulls him closer. “you can’t possibly think that a connection to the NHL would change anything about how I feel for you.” “stop thinking with your dick and use that tiny hockey player brain of yours to realize that being with me means everything that everyone in your life wants for you, goes away. when someone like James could easily just take my place and you get that life you’ve worked for” Andre laughs a soft little rumble out of his throat before he kisses Dylan roughly thumb digging beneath his chin and holding him in place where he wants him, smiling into the kiss when Dylan just melts, falling so beautifully pliant when Andre opens him up.

“I’ve played different ice sports for over a century. Hockey now. It’s easy to hide among athletes.” He looked at Alex seriously. “I drink stored blood so I don’t hurt people. But this—” he gestured between them “—is dangerous. If hunters or the league find out… it’s over.” Alex stepped closer. “Let them worry about that,” he said. Then he kissed Jake again, slower this time. Jake melted into the kiss. They fell onto the grass together under the stars, laughing softly between kisses. For a while there was nothing but the sound of the lake and their breathing.

“Did you see that, Marie? He told me he loved me.” “No. Ouch.” She pulled away and massaged her fingers. “He only winked at you. He does that all the time to his fans.” “No but this one was a very unique one.” I return my gaze to the hockey match, my eyes following every move Ajax makes. “He's so dreamy.” I smiled. “Eww! Stop drooling at my boyfriend.” The water bottle hit my head in a loud chunk and I whipped around to find Missy Cooper laughing with her friends.

Like the moment I returned to Toronto, everything would become difficult again. Still, I smiled faintly to myself. Because no matter how much my heart hurt, hockey was still waiting for me. And maybe… that was enough. “Goodbye, HIStory,” I whispered softly. Then I closed my eyes. “Hello, hockey.”

“Isn’t that right, Captain?” My throat contracts, but I manage a nod. And drop my eyes back to my plate, feeling queasy. ‘Northbridge’s Hockey Team Rules and Regulations – Rule 3: It is forbidden to ever get involved with a figure skater. You’re off the team immediately and banned from setting foot in the Arena.’ “Are you good?” Avan asks, sliding a hand over my back. “Yeah,” I nod, glancing at him. “The smoothie is weird.” “Really?” His brows jump with worry. He scoots over and grabs my drink to smell. “Is there… banana in it?”
