Roman asked, his voice almost a whisper now, as if he were afraid of hearing the wrong answer.
“Yes,” I said, my voice unwavering this time. “I do. I always have. And that’s why I’m scared, Roman. I’m scared of what that means.”
Roman reached out, gently brushing a strand of hair behind my ear. His touch was so familiar, and yet, it felt like we were both learning how to navigate this space between us again. “You don’t have to be scared,” he said softly. “We’ve been through hell and back. But we’re still here. And if we’re going to try again, Lena, it has to be different. It has to be real. No more hiding.”
