"I'll forgive your indiscretions. Reid probably forced you into this, right?" Fear clenched at Bella's chest as she realized the depth of the stalker's delusion. The darkness seemed to close in around her as he leaned in, kissing her through the gag. "One day, it could be you in the crosshairs. Not because of who you are. Because of who I am." She turned. The morning light cut him in two—half the man who'd buried his face in her shoulder last night, half the expressionless killer at the end of the hall. "What? One day you'll shoot me?" The color drained from his face. "I'd sooner put a bullet in my own head." His voice had dropped to something almost inaudible. He didn't finish the sentence. He didn't need to. Her tears fell. She didn't wipe them. She let him see.

He looked up at me with eyes as black as coal and full of hatred. “You have been a very tricky woman to get hold of,” my stalker said, his lips curling with a humorless smirk. “Lucky for me, you were out of town long enough so I could get past these cheap little window locks.” My heart went into my throat as I fumbled to grab the doorknob behind me. All humor left my stalker’s face as he aimed the gun at me. “Don’t be an idiot,” he growled, pointed canines in his mouth bared. “Close the door, sit on the couch, and be a good girl.”
