Im Juweliergeschäft fiel mein Blick sofort auf eine Krone aus purem Silber, besetzt mit Diamanten. Gerade als ich danach griff, schnitt eine schrille Frauenstimme dazwischen: „Die, die sie in der Hand hält, gefällt mir. Die nehme ich. Geben Sie her.“ Bevor ich reagieren konnte, riss mir der Verkäufer die Krone aus den Händen und kratzte dabei fast meine Haut auf. Ich richtete mich auf und zwang mich zur Ruhe. „Schon mal was von ‚Wer zuerst kommt, mahlt zuerst‘ gehört? Ich habe sie zuerst gesehen. Ist das hier etwa üblich?“ Die Wölfin drehte sich langsam zu mir um und musterte mich mit einem langen, spöttischen Blick. „Diese Krone kostet 300.000 Euro. Bist du sicher, dass du dir das leisten kannst, Dorfmädchen? Ich bin mit dem Alpha des Silbermond-Rudels aufgewachsen, mit Falcon Sterling. Hier bestimme ich die Regeln.“ Ich starrte sie an und musste fast lachen. War das nicht lustig? Falcon war zufällig mein arrangierter Gefährte. Ich zog mein Handy heraus und wählte die Nummer. „Hey, Falcon. Deine entzückende Jugendfreundin hat mir gerade die Luna-Krone geklaut, die ich bei der Paarungszeremonie tragen soll. Was meinst du, was ich dagegen tun sollte?“

I couldn't breathe, unable to catch my breath as my chest heaved up and down, my stomach churning, unable to hold myself together as I watched his car speed down the driveway and away from me. As suggested, I headed to bed, my mind full of questions and wonders. End of the year. I was gonna use my bonus to treat Mom to a quick getaway. Instead? No bonus. Four hundred bucks sliced off my paycheck. I shot the HR supervisor a notice—three days to pay up. She laughed. Called me dramatic. Fired me right then. Coworkers backed her. Said I brought it on myself. Said I didn't care about the company. What they didn't see? I laughed the second I got that termination letter. Double severance? Come to mama.

My mother-in-law and I were traveling together. We'd just checked into the Solenne Hotel in Rivera City and decided to hit the pool. Then this woman—dressed like money and attitude—pinched her nose like we stank. "This is a luxury hotel. How did you people even get in? Sneak in just for the pool? Ugh, I need a test after this." Buzzkill. I snapped, "It's a hotel pool. Guests swim. If that's a problem, go build your own." Her face twisted. "Excuse me? Do you even know who I am? My husband owns this place. We always stay in the top suite. So get out. You reek of broke. You're contaminating the water." Georgina and I traded a look. Ice cold. This was her son's hotel. My husband's. Since when did he come with a second wife?

. "I WILL NOT WAKE HIM" My voice thunders through the large throne room. All who reside in it are brought to their knees. Cowering and bowing their heads. I take a sharp inhale and the wave of power leaves them and they return to their previous positions. Another member of my court approaches, I nod allowing her to come forward. Her long green dress, compliments her light brown hair and golden eyes. "Mara, what say you?" Alarich takes her hand and guides her forward "My beautiful queen, only your blood can wake him, if you see it fit to subdue him after and place him back to rest. My men and I will happily comply" I smile at her and Alarich. "You think it's that easy. I will not be weak. You know this and he will see to it I am, specially if I carry his child". Alarich places a gentle kiss to Mara's forehead. Grateful for his loves presence and offer. "Majesty your mark moves, it longs for him" She looks up at me with hopeful eyes. "Oh Mara, I cannot allow him back into the world. I am strong enough to take a rebellion on by myself, no one can kill me with this mark and no one else can hold it, whilst I'm alive. "You ask me to wake the only one who can kill me?"

I’d just set sail to escort the cargo to the border when a Category 8 typhoon warning suddenly blared. I steer the ship back in the direction of the harbor, only to realize that the ship has run out of fuel. The distress beacon has been dismantled, too. Immediately, I pick up the radio and call the maritime rescuers for help. As soon as the call gets connected, I hear my wife, Melanie Watkins' mocking laughter instead. "I've already rewired the emergency number so that you can never reach the rescuers. Have fun surviving in the ocean!" Her student, Darell Parker, is with her as well. "Remember when you made fun of me for not knowing how to swim, Clifton? Well, now you're given the chance to show off your swimming skills! You can swim all the way back to the shore on your own! You'd better not be as slow as the sea turtles!" The waves have almost capsized the cargo ship. If I can't get rescued anytime soon, I'll end up dying in the sea. I can only grit my teeth before pleading to Melanie, "No one can possibly swim back to shore! Help me call the maritime rescuers—" But she laughs coldly in return. "Why do you need the rescuers' help? Didn't you say one must learn how to protect themselves? Now swim! "If you think the waters are too cold, then swim faster! Maybe you'll feel warmer the faster you swim!" I give up on arguing with Melanie. After that, I head toward the cargo area with a blade in hand and get ready to sever the ropes tying the cargo down.
