Rune Reader Novels & Stories

I said softly and Rune bit his lip telling me he would take note of that. I rolled my eyes and set the table. There was another knock at the door and I eyed Rune. He asked me to watch the pancakes in the pan as he headed toward the front door. I flipped them and peeked out the kitchen door to see Rune standing there holding several letters. He had opened up one and was reading it. His brow had furrowed and I bit my lip and went back to take the finished pancakes out of the pan and added four more. Rune walked back into the kitchen rubbing his eyes and handed me the letter. It was gold script lettering on ink black paper. "What is it?" I asked before reading it.

"You told me how runes work." "26 letters, every one of them is a picture by itself. And I can cut the letters open and assemble them however I want, so." I shrugged with sarcasm, "I'm sure you can read it after one class." Al curved his lips. "Would you tell me if I get it right then?" Al asked. "Sure, I can even tell you it's a three-letter word." I shrugged. Even if Al could read Runes, this one was ruined by blood. Even granny couldn't recognize it.

I quickly turned, gathering the rest of my clothes, and rushed back to the packhouse. And just like yesterday morning, getting out from under Anna’s thumb and away from the packhouse so I could make it to the training grounds in time was a feat that should count for training in and of itself. The more I got to know Anna, the less she intimidated me… but she still exhausted me. She was big energy, all the time. “So what do you and Mr. Alpha have planned for today, huh?” she insisted. “He’s got me reading through and scanning a bunch of files of people who have joined the pack. I bet you have more fun plans.”
