She looked gentle and kind, completely unlike someone connected to evil.
Candice smiled back, waving a greeting, but as soon as she turned her head away, her smile disappeared.
“She’s Mrs. Lawrence.”
“Lawrence…” Marlene clapped her hands. “Ah, I remember now, Mrs. Lawrence, the wife of Uncle Lawrence. I think I met her when we went to Shandor a few years ago.”
“Yeah, that’s her.” Candice nodded with a smile.
“Miss Hale, it seems you don’t really like Mrs. Lawrence,” Marlene said, her eyes narrowed slightly, with a half-smile. She had clearly noticed that the smile had disappeared as soon as Candice turned her head.
