She said and didn't wait for Naya to say anything else before ending the call. She sighed and picked up the contract papers. She couldn't believe Dominic actually made a contract with obnoxious conditions. She stood up, transformed into her normal self and appeared in the magic realm. “Moon Goddess,” Marlene bowed. “It's been quite a while.” She smiled. “Yes, it has. Are you well?” She asked. “Here isn't the same with you gone but I'm coping and hoping you'd come back soon.” Marlene replied. “I'll definitely come back soon.” She smiled and disappeared, reappearing in the meeting room.

Marlene was ferocious, landing savage blows that sent me stumbling back, but I was able to stand my ground. Her claws raked across my side, drawing blood, and her teeth snapped near my face. It hurt terribly and I knew I was losing a lot of blood but I didn’t dare let it show. Her arrogant wolfish grin annoying me immensely. I responded with agility, dodging, twisting, and narrowly escaping her savage gripes. I lashed out with quick punches, aiming to disable, but Marlene fought back with relentless strength. She was a fighter I’d give her that but there was no way in ell that she was going to be able to win this.

“Well, I’ll be damned.” With that presence, Marlin has confirmed that there was indeed something in the body of this woman. Now she needs to find out what and where before she can figure out how to get rid of it. Marlin tried to trace for the source of the faint presence, but she couldn’t trace it far enough. The source was too far for her to sense. So she resolved to another method. Marlin placed her hand on the woman’s forehead, just barely touching it. “[Deep Sleep], and Sorry for intruding. [Memory Dive]” Upon casting her second spell, Marlin’s mind entered another space of reality.

“Ahem.” Marlene stirred, her eyes fluttering open. When she saw Harper standing before her, she gasped in relief and joy. “Harper! You—you’re okay?” Harper’s face remained expressionless. Her voice was calm and distant. “I came to tell you that you were never part of my life before, and from now on, you don’t need to be.” Marlene and Blake exchanged a silent, pained glance. “Harper,” Marlene’s voice trembled, “We know we wronged you—”

Outside, the world was a nightmare of obsidian water and violet fire. Kazimir stepped onto the Dorsal Hull (the top surface of the submarine). Above him, seven miles of water pressed down with enough force to turn a tank into a pancake. His boots, equipped with Electromagnetic Soles (magnets used to lock a diver to a metal surface), clanked against the titanium skin of the Sparrow. The Divergent (the corrupted, zombie-like Architect) was waiting.

Harlyn called my name her gaze tentatively and defensively on Merari. “Hello, dear,” the beautiful woman greeted Harlyn. “Who are you?” Harlyn asked without hesitation. Merari simply smiled at her. “Oh, I forgot to introduce myself. Forgive me, but I just had to see Caris’s little miracle baby,” she approached and her hand hovered over my daughter’s features and for a second I did not trust what she’d do to her. Then she retracted. “What a pretty little thing you are,” she said and then sighed. “My name is Merari, dear, Merari Van Doren” she finally answered Harlyn's question. “And to answer the question that your father is too cowardly to answer, yes…it was Valene.”

Wade touched the bank card in his pocket guiltily and proceeded to fabricate lies. "Yes, Mrs. Miller. He even said that ten million dollars is too small of an amount. He demanded a hundred million from Pris! It wasn't until I gave him two hard slaps that he agreed to the divorce for ten million dollars." Marianne was so gripped by anger that she trembled all over. She seemed so close to collapsing from a raging fit. It wasn't until a long while later that she finally reined in her temper. "My daughter wasted a huge part of her youth on that scumbag. I'm doing him a tremendous favor by not asking him for reimbursement.

“If you think kidnapping me is going to scare me off, you don’t know me at all.” The man chuckled, a dark, humorless sound. “Bravery. How admirable. But misplaced.” The door creaked open, and another figure stepped inside. This one was more familiar—Marlene. Her presence ignited a fire of rage within me. “You’ve gone too far this time!” I spat. Marlene smiled, a venomous curve of her lips. “Oh, darling, you’ve gone too far. Meddling in matters you don’t understand, dragging Thiago into this mess... Did you think there wouldn’t be consequences?”

Marlene was resolved to find a way for Janiya that didn’t involve Dean Whitmore. As Marlene boarded the crowded bus, she pressed herself against the window, watching the city blur past in streaks of gold and grey. Her thoughts swirled with shame and anger, but also a stubborn spark of hope. Janiya’s future could not, would not, be dictated by the cruelty of the rich or the cowardice of men like Dean Whitmore. Marlene wiped her eyes and silently promised she would try again, somehow. Even if tonight, she had no idea how.

Suddenly there's a commotion and some people in the pool, Odette and I stand to see what's going on. Liam's head emerges out of the water, followed by Marco's. I push through the small crowd forming, "Liam?" I call, but he ignores me. He steps out of the pool, followed by Marco, they both look very angry, and I wonder what happened. Most importantly I hope he's okay. I don't care about Marco, I'm still offended about his indifference that night, the night Serena humiliated me. He saw all that, yet sided with her, I thought we got along, but, I was wrong.
