Ruby swayed on her feet, eyes glazed with pain and exhaustion, but her grip on consciousness was pure stubbornness. Ruby’s unfocused gaze snapped toward him, wild and desperate. For a moment she didn’t seem to recognize him, only registering movement, threat, survival. She was ready to fight him too.
He lifted both hands, palms out. “Relax, sunshine. I’m not here to haul you back to Frankenstein’s basement.”
