Ruby grinned, tilting her head. “Well, unfortunately for you… that chance is gone. Forever.”
She turned, walking toward the burning fire. The heat licked at her skin, but she welcomed it. Reaching down, she picked up a burning piece of wood. The flames danced wildly, hungry.
She turned back to Don Gray, watching as his body trembled.
Despite the bruises, despite the blood, despite his so-called reputation, he was shaking.
Sweat dripped from his forehead. His breathing grew ragged. And then....his lips quivered.
