I straightened with the shoe which Colt plucked out of my hand, and then leaned over to take the other shoe off when she said. “There is a serial killer in Palo Alto. Sally is dead.” I straightened up with the other shoe in hand, frozen stiff as my vision blurred. “Are you OK, are you safe?” I gasped. Sally was dead? Sally with the beautiful golden hair that looked silver was dead? Emma broke into sobs then. This was one of her colleagues, an executive assistant.
