My knee throbs with every step. He walks beside me. Silent. Watching. The air between us is charged. Heavy. I can barely breathe. His scent surrounds me. Pine. Rain. Everything I’ve been craving for four months. Sable is whimpering. Say something. Do something. Please. I can’t. If I open my mouth, I don’t know what will come out. We walk in silence. The forest gets quieter. Darker. Finally, he speaks. “You didn’t sign up for the tournament, did you?”

“I didn’t think you’d actually give it to me.” “I know, which is why I gave it to you. Would you like to go through it?” he asked. “Do you want me to?” I asked in confusion, only to get a shrug in response. Now I know why he didn’t mind. Six’s phone is borderline brand new, and I’m not talking about the actual phone. I mean that he doesn’t have any messages (except the one text he sent me last night), a call history, photos, videos, or even an internet history. He only has Cash, Eli, Westley, Summer, and, surprisingly, Noah and I’s numbers only.
