She watched in amazement as the skeleton body of Sarah started gaining flesh and soon a beautiful woman stood in the place a skinny malnourished woman was before. Sarah was a beauty to behold, her black hair cascading her back and stopping at her hips. Her eyes were dark as midnight and she was tall, taller than Rumi by a foot inch.

I instructed weakly, "then send for Mari. She cured Sara of a similar infection years ago. She has the touch for this." The room—my private sanctuary—felt far too small when the door suddenly flew open without so much as a polite knock. Sara stormed in, her eyes burning like blue fire. She caught Yara just as the healer was pulling on her clinical coat. Sara stopped short, her gaze darting between my bandaged chest and the woman at my bedside. A flicker of recognition crossed her features, and her face became uncharacteristically thoughtful. "I’ve seen you," Sara said, her voice dropping an octave, thick with suspicion. "I’ve seen those eyes before. In the Zone."

Placing a hand on my head, I feel a headache coming along. “Damn it, it’s like reading the same thing over and over again.” Sarah, who doesn’t even look half as fazed as me, continues to flip through her fifth book with ease. “We can't give up yet; I am sure we will find something in one of these.” I wish I had as much hope and enthusiasm as she did. I pick up the next book and flip through the pages lazily. For a brief second, something catches my eye. I flip back a few pages to see exactly what it is. It is a picture of a bleeding wolf standing before a divine being.

“But in exactly one hour, you’re eating something again whether you like it or not.” She stalked off with the plate, muttering under her breath about stubborn pregnant women. Just when I thought I’d have a few peaceful minutes to finish at least one email, Sarah came bouncing in like a puppy with a book clutched tightly in her arms. I tensed immediately. I knew that look.

I retrieved my cell phone from my purse and texted her. Me: You made the right choice by staying home. Mary: Is the party boring? Me: Very. Plus, the company is lacking. Mary: I can imagine. I couldn’t bring myself to go. To be honest, there aren’t many girls from Eden I want to speak with. Unfortunately, the ones I liked were killed. My chest ached with grief. Mary: How sad is that? The good girls died, and the mean girls lived. Me: Let’s talk about something else. What is the vampire soap opera that Judge Max says is so good that you won’t deign us with your presence?

May entered Edric's room, packed all her belongings that were inside and carried them to Maryam's room. After she had placed them neatly at the end of her daughter's room, she turned to Maryam, who was sitting crossed leg and reading another novel. This one was bigger than the first book. "And what are you reading now, Maryam?" She looked up from her book with a smile. "Americana by Chimamanda Adichie." May rolled her eyes. "Where do you get all these books from?" "Sandra's older sister gave it to me. I'll have to return it on Monday."
