“I told her to survive.”
“And she did,” Sariyah agreed. “Without you.”
The vision sharpened cruelly. I saw Ember’s face, not laughing now, but fierce, powerful. Shadows curled at her feet, fire burning black in her palms. She was unrecognizable, unreachable.
“She doesn’t need saving anymore,” Sariyah said. “She has him. She has power. She has forgotten.”
The vision shattered. I fell to my knees, my breath tearing from my chest. I gasped loudly trying to bring air into my lungs. “No,” I whispered. “She wouldn’t.”
