“We need to leave right now, before he comes back.” They moved fast and quietly. As they slipped out, a piece of paper fell from Zara’s bag — neither of them noticed it in the urgency of the moment. They reached the car, Zara drove, and the warehouse disappeared behind them. When Lilly’s breathing had steadied, she said quietly: “It was Mark, Mum. Bella’s son.” Zara exhaled slowly. “I know.” “He said his father sent him. He had a knife.” “I know, baby.” She kept her eyes on the road. “You’re safe. That’s all that matters right now.”

I forced my hind legs under me and kicked, throwing her off just enough to roll away. I looked for the bell. It lay under a broken beam. Too far. Beverly saw where I looked. She reached it first. Her clawed hand closed around the beam and tossed it aside as if it weighed nothing. Then she struck the bell with the back of her claws, sending it skidding across the ash-covered ground. It rang once as it bounced. The sound made her flinch. Only flinch. Not stagger. Not scream. Not enough. My stomach sank. She was adapting to that too.

I know how disposable I am to him, just another pawn in his game. I close my eyes again, trying to steady my breathing, its all futile. How do I tell people that a man in a mask-- The Devil killed those men as a gift for me, as crazy as that might sound, I have no information about him except his mask. It’s three days to Halloween, anyone could have those mask on. I feel a sudden vibration causing me to reach into my pocket and pull out my phone, the screen light up with a notification. Seventeen missed calls from Mike.

I couldn't lift my hands or any part of my body no matter how hard I tried. Only a tiny whisper could come out of my damaged throat. The names of the only two people that could actually save me from the devil. "Matteo... Kian... please save me..." "I'm here." Someone said it. A voice. Deep. Familiar. Matteo. Matteo was here. He'd come to save me. "Sleep, Bella. You're safe." His voice was close, right next to my ear, warm and gentle. "And I promise he's never going to touch you ever again. I'll be waiting for you right here."

Sky POV The smell hit me before I even opened my eyes—crispy bacon, buttery toast, and rich coffee. I shot upright in bed, my heart already fluttering. He did it again. My gaze fell on the tray and the note placed beside it, folded neatly. I didn't even need to read it again—I already had the words memorized. ‘Training yard. Before 7. We'll go slow. Just us. – Z’ A wide smile spread across my face as I grabbed the bacon and bit down with a satisfied moan. I ate fast, giddy with anticipation.

“Forgive me if you ever can. But don’t come back for anyone. If you’re with the wolves, stay there. Maybe they’ll do what I didn’t. Maybe they’ll protect you.” The door opened off-camera. Ornella whispered one last sentence. “Watch out for Herman. He doesn’t serve Maxon. He serves the Gate.” The video cut out. No one spoke. I stared at the black screen. “The Bellamy house,” Arsel said. “Do you remember it?” I shook my head slowly. “No.” “We can find it,” Liv said. “Do it,” Arsel ordered. “I’m already doing it,” she replied, walking out with the tablet in her hand.

Gregori placed a hand briefly on my shoulder, a quiet acknowledgment of what had been handled, before his attention shifted toward the television nearby, which had been turned on by someone in the room. I followed his gaze without much interest at first. Until I heard her name. “We have just received news that internationally renowned model Belvania, also known as Bella Smith, was involved in an accident yesterday while walking in San Francisco. According to reports, a motorcyclist attempted to snatch her bag, and when she resisted, he struck her, causing her to fall and sustain injuries. She is currently receiving treatment at a local hospital.” Everything stopped. Not physically but intern

Please… I don't want to be carved out alive again! Hearing "carved out alive", my hand trembled, and I dialed Silas' number. The instant the call connected, I blurted out, "You have half an hour. Get to my house!"

My thumb — six percent, slick with panic, acting on no mandate from me, a rogue state — hit speaker. "OH MY GOD YOU'RE ALIVE." Jill's voice filled Duane Richter's apartment the way the demo cars had filled downtown. It hit the glass wall and came back with interest. The plant swayed. "Jill, hey, so funny story, I'm actually—"

Then doing it again. Again. Again. Until she found a world where he lived. The message continued. THE FIRST TIME, YOU SAVE LUCAS. Elena’s eyes filled. THE SECOND TIME, YOU SAVE ADRIAN. Adrian closed his eyes. THE THIRD TIME, ANNA. Anna stared. THEN ELIAS. THEN LILY. THEN EVA. THEN EVERYONE YOU CAN. Lucas whispered: “That sounds good.” Elena looked at him. The next message appeared. EVENTUALLY YOU LEARN THAT SAVING PEOPLE AFTER DANGER IS INEFFICIENT.
