he instructed, gesturing to the masks that were lying in front of us. "Dad, mine broke," I said, holding up the broken mask for him to see. "What the fuck did you do?" he asked, shaking his head in exasperation. But then, seeing the disappointment on my face, he softened. "Here, take mine," he said, handing me his mask. Gratefully, I took the mask from him and placed it over my face, feeling a sense of excitement building inside me as the lights in the room began to dim. Suddenly, a voice came over the speakers from the front of the room, and I felt a thrill of anticipation run through me.

Rhys followed a few minutes later, saying nothing but seeing the entire scenario, grabbing a plate and dishing his meal. We all ate in silence and it wasn't comfortable. I was just glad that they weren't as angry at me anymore. Still basking in a state of serene bliss, we began our journey back home. All of a sudden, Kenny let out a piercing scream, catching me off guard and causing me to jump. "Turn back!" he urgently exclaimed. Perplexed, I inquired about what was wrong. "I forgot to pick up the masks! How can we have a masquerade without masks?" he exclaimed with clear panic in his voice. I let out a relieved sigh and gently closed the door. As I turned around, I saw Kenny grinning mischievously at me. I playfully slapped my hand to my forehead and scolded him for frightening me earlier.

Someone bumped into my and my mask fell off I almost fainted before Joshua started turning arou, I put my head down and quickly ran into that hallway and then sighed relieved and carried my head up. I walked into the biggest shock of my life “What the hell are you doing here?”, he asked me so shocked. “Mason?”, I mumbled, shocked to my bones. “why don’t you have a mask on?”, he shrieked. “I.. I was glued to his side all this while, without anyone recognize me. It was a charity ball or something, I was still with him, sipping my orange juice, when I noticed a distinct mask from afar. "I will be with you shortly," I said, and he nodded. I moved a little closer, and it was the mask I saw in the picture in Kira's phone. I mindlinked Hayden and turned to show him the mask, but it was gone. "It was right there," I whispered, and I was searching for him when I saw the person putting on the mask as he was leaving the room.

As the butler got the car ready, Mindy herself was already standing in front of what remained of the Schuyler family’s mansion. “Excuse me, but have you seen anyone wearing a mask? He’s about this tall and with his mask down, he has serious burn marks around his eyes…” asked a girl to a random passer-by as she lifted her hand over her head to mimic how tall Sanderson was. “…No I haven’t…?” replied the confused man.

The venue was beautiful; whoever the host was really did a great job with the decorations and all the arrangements.

I took the ring and tried to slide it onto his finger, but it would not go past his knuckle. He tried to push it on, but I stopped him. I hum in agreement. Before we can move further, a servant steps forward, holding out a velvet tray filled with masks. I nudge her. “Pick one.” Her brows shoot up. “Wait… this is a masquerade?” I nod. Sid huffs. “Well, that explains your mysterious masked-woman look.” She reaches forward and selects a black mask studded with tiny diamonds, turning it in the light with clear approval. Then she glances at me and frowns. “Where’s Alex?”
