We thought we had killed them all. Rivers of blood soaked the ground and flowed between the trees in the forest south of Scarlet Moon. Torn and broken bodies littered our path as we retreated to the safety of the only pack Sebastian trusted with those most precious to him. We limped through the gates, bloody and battle weary after taking on at least five men a piece. Unbeknownst to us at the time, one man survived, Blue Blade, named for the unique and deadly weapon he wields. He is the one who sends rogues to the border, taunting me, letting me know he is still out there, waiting for me to blink so he can strike.

“Not scavengers. Engineers.” Blade scanned the implants with his wrist reader. “No local signature. This tech’s not ours, not any pack’s. Looks… military.” “Black Sun?” I asked. He hesitated. “Their old design language, yeah—but upgraded. Cleaner. Smarter.” Ghost grimaced. “Guess someone picked up their scraps after we burned them down.” I leaned closer to the dying wolf. Its eye flickered—one blue, one red. For a heartbeat, I thought I saw recognition there. Then its jaw opened in a twitching rictus, and the voice that came out wasn’t its own.

He leaned closer and the blade tighter that it nearly reached my breath, “There is none left devoted to Abberant. Nothing left.” Making a rapid stroke, I clutched my hands onto this guy’s shoulder and flip him over me. He crashed onto the stack of armors but the blades didn’t spare me, leaving a long wound on my neck. As well as it is, five more cadets emerged from the shadows, and all of them were armed with sharp swords. And the aim is me. Damn! This is out of my expectation. They’re all under Vander’s command, they’re all traitors surrounding the entire camp!
